Blood plasma is the straw-coloured liquid component left when blood cells are removed from whole blood. It contains nutrients and immune molecules like antibodies.
Health Canada says on its website that there's "not enough plasma collected in Canada to meet the demand," with most of the plasma products distributed by CBS and Héma-Quebec purchased from U.S. manufacturers and made from U.S.–paid donor plasma. "Because Canadian Blood Services has been slow to roll out their plan, that is why we are here today and there is nothing that impedes them from opening more plasma collection centres."
CBS collects plasma from donors at several sites across Canada, but it only collects about 15 per cent of the plasma needed, according to its website. For regular donor Tony Reddin, who lives in Bonshaw, P.E.I., hearing about CBS' discussions is distressing.
I sell my plasma - 20k$ non taxable. That’s my fees
Have we already forgotten how having private companies in charge of blood donations can be problematic?
All healthcare needs to be opened up to a private public hybrid model. Every hospital has thousands of employees and yet burn out staff in a couple of departments, ERs and ICUs. Unions are afraid of losing control and create this fear of privatization.
Highly contradictory article
Didnt we all got covid ? So how will we give blood 😂😂😂😂
I'm a regular donor but they don't want my blood because I got a tattoo in May. They want such people to wait 6 months. So there's that.

After more than 50 donations I paused mine when they didn't require Employees, Volunteers and Donors alike be fully vaccinated. For that, they blocked me on Twitter. Now that they've dropped the mask requirement, I won't be donating ever again. I'm far from the only one.
Why not just have JT mandate blood donations? I mean, it's for the good of society, right? No one should have the right to hoard their own blood when someone else might need it. /s
They need to double down, before paying double for less from private institutions or leaders need to be replaced for failing Canadians
An article about CBS inability to obtain enough blood donations that doesnt even mention the reversal of their mask policy last month which caused the vast majority of donors to rethink their decision. Do better reporting
Hasn’t been a clinic in northern BC for years. Maybe the collection strategy could involve reopening clinics?
You should at least get a tax donation receipt.
One appointment time available, once a month in brandon mb. It isn’t convenient so i don’t go. I’m O+.
Motivate people to give blood. Offer that donors can vector blood to whoever they choose who agrees & is currently in need. Of course anonymity will be steadfastly defended, for all kinds of virtuous reasons, so we’ll have to get used to insufficient donations. Choose wisely.
You donate your blood and then they sell your blood to hospitals.
Or you know CanadasLifeline Can end the Gay Blood Ban.
I’m a regular donor but every time I’m going to book an appointment, I have to search to find a close location. They should have more mobile locations.
