Canadian airline crew held in Dominican Republic over cocaine on plane may be freed: CEO

Edmondson cautioned that the news is tentative and that they are still waiting to get the prosecutors’ order in writing. Dominican officials say that officers found more than 200 kilograms of cocaine – about $25-million-worth in street value – inside the plane.The Pivot CRJ-100 jet had flown a group of seven potential investors in an Alberta company and their guests to Punta Cana early this spring. A new crew returned to fly them back to Toronto on April 5, when a mechanic flying with the plane discovered a strange bag in the avionics bay, an enclosure under the aircraft.

The crew reported their find to the airline, which then contacted the RCMP in Canada and Dominican police. Local officers discovered several more bags in the avionics bay, went off with some of them, then came back when alerted by the crew that they had left half the parcels behind, Pivot says.

7 months and our PM said almost nothing. And other Canadian airlines kept right on sending their planes full of tourists to reward the corrupt systems down there. Failures at every turn.

Typically drug smugglers don't alert the authorities when they find cocaine they're smuggling. Just an observation. Who was looking for a bribe?
