Antonio Pierce has been appointed as the interim head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders for the remainder of the season. The decision comes after the team's struggles and the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. The Raiders currently have a 3-5 record and are tied for last in the AFC West.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Las Vegas is currently sitting tied for last in the AFC West with a 3-5 record.

McDaniels, 47, was in his second year at the helm of the Raiders, after spending the previous 10 seasons serving as offensive coordinator for Bill Belichick's staff with the New England Patriots. The Raiders dropped to 9-16 under McDaniels after a loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football earlier this week.

After a middling season last year, where the offence finished ranked 12th in scoring but struggled to close out games, the wheels have come off this year. McDaniels jettisoned longtime starting quarterback Derek Carr and brought in Jimmy Garoppolo as a replacement, and the offence has sunk to 30th in scoring through eight games played.
