Alcohol suspected as factor in Mount Doug crash that saw driver hit tree: police

Posted: Dec. 1, 2022 4:45PMA driver who veered off the road and hit a large tree at Mount Douglas Park Thursday morning was believed to be impaired, according to Saanich Police.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 4500-block of Cedar Hill Road, where officers found the vehicle resting on its side in a forested area, said Const. Markus Anastasiades, spokesperson for Saanich Police. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and received care from paramedics on scene before being transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Anastasiades told CHEK News.

“Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision, which is still under investigation,” he said in a statement.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.“While the driver was fortunate to walk away with non-serious injuries, this type of collision was completely preventable. Impaired driving can have tragic consequences. This collision comes on the heels of the start-up of our enhanced road checks that start tomorrow.
