Akim Aliu has signed with HC Litvinov in Czech Extraliga. There are 14 games left in their season, although he will try to help them make playoffs. He leaves tomorrow and plays his first game on Friday.Elliotte Friedman reports that Aliu will join the team Wednesday and is slated to play Friday. There are 14 games remaining in the season.
The 30-year-old defenceman/winger last suited up for the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears in 2018-19, notching 11 points in 14 games. Aliu was selected in the second round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in seven NHL games with the Calgary Flames across the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.He initially spoke out in November about an incident during his 2009-10 season with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs when the team’s head coach, Bill Peters, directed a racial slur at him. Peters was suspended by the Flames — where he was head coach when Aliu made his comments — and eventually resigned.

Theo fluery faced many issues from coaches and staff through his career and still overcame it and was a fantastic player. This guy is using this as a crutch to why he isn’t good enough to play in the nhl. No doubt he was subject to racism but not the reason he isn’t in the nhl
