Speaking with CP24 Wednesday, Interim President of the Canadian Airports Council Monette Pasher said that airports were able to accommodate the restrictions in a timely way when passenger volumes were way down because of the pandemic, but they have struggled as passenger volumes return to normal.
But she said the federal government could do more to help the situation by removing random tests and public health questions for arriving passengers. Like many jurisdictions, Canada has struggled to modulate COVID-19 health screening in order to balance protecting the country from new variants with a return to normal life. The issue has also been politicized at times, with Ontario Premier Doug FordThe government eliminated a pre-entry COVID test requirement for fully vaccinated travellers as of April 1.
“We are pleased that Canadians are excited to get back to travelling and we know there is more work to do as the sector continues its recovery. We will continuing working hard with airports, CATSA, and airline so that the travel industry can bounce back,” the statement read.
Risk safety, so people don’t need to wait…. Whether the measures are needed is a different story… but to just ease backlog… wow

TorontoPearson is the dumbest airport to be at right now. You cannot enter the airport unless you are flying out & on the other side there is a lineup of 200 passengers at immigration with only 5 counters open CanBorder checking all the flyers. There is literally a 30 min wait
Something that should have been done a long time ago. End the screenings and more importantly end the mandates that prevent a good percentage of the population to leave the country. Vaccinated ot unvaccinated...it doesn't make a difference.

Run the airports like the housing market. Raise the prices so much that it's impossible for most people to afford to fly for no reason and relieve the congestion. Quit destroying the environment with burnt jet fuel so you can lay on a beach and get drunk! We have beaches here 2!

The problem is not just the screening but also the fact that travelers use the kiosks to enter all the info and after completing that process you have to see an officer that will also review your credentials. In the rest of the world when you use the kiosks you are done
The screening is NOT the issue and answering 4 extra questions isn’t causing hours upon hours of backlog it is the inefficient herding of too many people through a space that is ill designed under staffed and not utilizing the CAn arrive app

Airports just don't want to hire more staff to handle the backlogs. It's always about the profit margins.
Came 2 weeks ago from Europe Nobody asked anything related to Covid; still it took one hour and a half to exit the custom If you are concerned or scared you can take all the Covid in the world how crowded it was. After hours of flight this is something we don’t need

Bearing in mind that Canada is now an outlier it makes perfect sense to scrap this, and to that matter the ridiculous inability to drop mask mandates. I just returned from the UK didn't wear a mask for 2 1/2 weeks including on packed underground trains.
