International Development Minister Karina Gould responds to a question during a news conference in Ottawa, April 8, 2019.Canada’s decision to increase its humanitarian aid to Lebanon recognizes the country already faced significant turmoil before last week’s explosion and will need long-term support, International Development Minister Karina Gould said Tuesday.
Gould said in an interview with The Canadian Press that Ottawa realized more would be needed and requests from international aid organizations would start coming in. Canada’s additional aid was announced just hours after Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced the resignation of his government following days of angry protests. He blamed the blast on “the result of endemic corruption.”
This has sparked protests of anger, which led to clashes between security forces and demonstrators Saturday in central Beirut over the weekend.
I donated to SamaritansPurse on my own to help in Lebanon. Can't the government just allow folks to donate on their own Why use taxpayer money?
With Canada’s massive debt are there any countries of charities sending money to Canada?
This government can't account for billions of taxpayer dollars. Only a moron would trust them with their money.
How about Canadians 1st! everyone else 50th
