Maria Sharapova is calling it a career

Sharapova played only two matches this season and lost both.

In an essay written for Vanity Fair and Vogue about her decision to walk away from the sport, posted online Wednesday, Sharapova asks: "How do you leave behind the only life you've ever known?" She burst onto the tennis scene at 17 when she won Wimbledon in 2004 and would go on to complete a career Grand Slam with two titles at the French Open and one each at the U.S. Open and Australian Open.

The Russian, who moved to Florida as a child, served a 15-month ban after failing a doping test in 2016.

Finally, she can make more time to be with me.

Time to make babies!

Useless without her meldonium to give her a boost. She retires in disgrace and should not be celebrated.

Respected her intensity and never-quit attitude..... but the glares and grunts made her unwatchable for years. PED

See Eugenie , now that’s how it’s done. Don’t be shy.

Not much of a retirement , dodging fishing lines the rest of your life ... Who thought that one up .

U.S. group eyes Nova Scotia inlet as possible ‘retirement home’ for captive whalesThe project creates an area where the retired orca and beluga whales are free to swim and dive deeply, while still being fed and cared for by the group That would be awesome.... I have huge concerns with this whole idea, your going to confine them in an extra large pool netted off, exposing them to disease from water not controlled, and your going to continue to hand feed them, I only see disaster here.

MLB tells court attempts at cheating are a part of sportsAttempts at cheating are a part of sports, Major League Baseball said in urging a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit by fantasy contestants Not good enough. MLB needs to tell the world why the World Series title and rings are not being recalled and given to the real (non-cheating) winner. The MLB is making a very weak argument. Solution is simple, strike the Astros from the trophy. Fine them a huge fine and ban them from the MLB for a certain time period.
