. FB banned news the day the Royal Commission into media diversity began. In the opening, Rudd highlighted how Murdoch and Zuckerberg are the same problem. This battle is a ruse - a fake distraction from the Senate hearing. They will get a win-win solution - at our loss .

Basically Facebook is now ransomware

The battle of the bergs. A burger storm approaching.

Support FB! FreeHongKong

Ah a real 'meeting of the minds'....

Hey josh take on this punk wish l was a fly on the wall when you do l csnt stand bullies at any level

Shame on you Mark Fuckingberg

There is a need for a news and announcement platform site that links all sites together as an entry point for accurate news and gov site. Perhaps the answer here is to provide a site structure for Australia and put all our news and other gov and services areas linked to this

The zuck with tell Josh to get zucked

If I were Zuckerberg I’d tell Frydenbuger to ‘jam’ it. We won’t put up news, Murdoch can make his own arrangements auspol Facebook

Facebook is so peaceful now the News sites have gone!

The government should set up a website to replace Facebook for Australian charities and essential services to use. Then Facebook can just be for social use like it should have been from the start.

Real headline should be Murdoch vs Facebook, Frydenberg is doing Murdoch's bidding FrydenbungledFacebook auspol

'Mr Anderson said around 7 million people visited ABC websites via Facebook every month.' Ahh yes, and Facebook needs to pay for all those people coming to your business!

Fuck facebook, account now closed FOREVER

I wish JoshFrydenberg would put this much effort to resolved the trade dispute with China.

Frydenberg has nothing. FB doesn’t sell news, why should they pay for it?

Heard Frythatburger is learning to breathe through his ears?!!!!

FACEBOOK is totally within its rights not to pay for something it didn’t upload. Those using those pages should pay Facebook. Murdoch the thug and standover merchant should be paying-It’s all arse about face. auspol2021

Lemme get this straight.. news media want to charge Facebook money for the articles they (news media) themselves often post on the platform to garner wider reach? Am I over simplifying things?!? How does this make any sense?!?

NewsCorp used Facebook’s free distribution to massively grow its traffic. NewsCorp then pushed its political arm in Australia (LNP) to make FB pay NewsCorp to distribute its content for free. Why would FB agree to that? NewsCorp should be paying FB to use its distribution channel

. This is a setup! It's a fake battle presented as a crisis. There will be a solution presented where both Murdoch & Zuckerberg win, at the expense of smaller players. It is no coincidence today was the stary of the Senate enquiry into media ownership. MurdochRoyalCommission

I am an eBay and Amazon shop onwer, located in Australia and work hard everyday. Can Morrison government order Amazon and eBay to pay me some money just like you push Google and Facebook?

People relying on a social media platform as their main source of news have got bigger problems.

I LIKE this version of Facebook!

Facebook must need Australian then? why would that freak even speak to Australia’s government if they didn’t need Australia ?

Battle of the Bergs!

Did anyone else notice FB news feeds instantly have actual real life people in them instead of being topped full of politically motivated news posts? digitaldetox 🏝

I do not miss FB at all.

Josh, you are FRIED.....

Scott Morrison 'if you want to do business on our shores you play by our rules' FB shuts down the news service entirely with no compromise. I can't help but see the parallel between what happened with Google search in China haha.

Frydenberg : Mark called me last night to discuss..... Yeah.... I'm sure he called.

Our politians forget one major thing Zach owns the business it's his not ours they weren't this gun ho when Virgin Airline owners pulled the plugged

keep Murdoch out of Facebook - we don't need them

Infact its kind of odd that country government has to deal with Private company. Where does this lead to government?

Simple .Ban Facebook in country

The government did this to itself. They acquiesced to news corps broad and meandering definition of ‘news’. While the UK has come out in support of Australia, they are are currently in the process of signing up to a new Facebook news service, much like Google showcase.

Fuck Facebook

Stick it to him Josh.

Why didnt news platforms just negotiate a deal with FB why the govt threat? The news platforms could surely have restricted forward linking/posting to Facebook by ppl. Govt could tax them - Govt passing legn to force non tax paying co to contracts with 3rd parties for services?

The discussion has had via text, so there was no speaking!

Carry on Facebook ! Don't let this bully, inept socialist goverment change the course of history. This Gov like to manipulate everything to pleased bunch of barinwashed voters who have no idea how internt works

This is the tip of the Ice-BERG { ZUCK + FRYD}

Shutdown Facebook, there has got to be another startup, great time to launch your app......

Battle of the Bergs.

JoshFrydenberg please don’t back down

Are they going to do it via Messenger?

Just DeleteFacebook You will be happier and more productive! all the good things it has (is there any?) can be done a million other ways. As for news.. check the official website of your preferred provider.. it's really not that hard I promise

Australian government pushed the go button for a tax grab and Facebook declined ?

We have enough tech gurus in Australia to make our own facebook. Here’s your chance techies ! Australians will move platforms if something else becomes available.

Isn’t that the guy who stole an idea from college counterparts and made a ton of money?

Pistols at dawn ..

What has Zuckerberg done to deserve this? Oh right.

Poor old Joshie, a rebel without a clue.

Zucker-Fryden Summit

Regulation and taxation is the best way forward!

I’m fine coming here or your app for my news. The news that used to filter through my Facebook feed was mostly rubbish anyway. I’m not even missing it. As a freelance writer, I want my articles to be shared though! 😜

This is between Facebook and well news media org, these are private corporations dealing with each other. Why does Government need to interfere? Unless they’re being influenced by Murdoch & co.

JoshFrydenberg do we need bullying Facebook? Why don't we promote Australian version of social media? Why depend on foreign businesses?

Mark all ads SPAM. I wonder what would happen if every time every Australian used FB, they systematically marked every ad as spam? I know direct advertising is not as profitable as monetising personal data, but still, advertisers on FB might be concerned they were viewed as spam

The bergs will get it sorted

I suspect the 'bergs' are on a collision course with an 'iceberg'

Just ban Facebook completely in Australia and ban all Australian advertising on the worn out platform. He makes money from the advertising. And his hip pocket is his favourite love.

Am I the only one who feels that the news companies should be the ones paying Facebook for giving them exposure? I’d love to know what the actual article view numbers are from Facebook to them then the views without Facebook. Government working in disguised self interest.

On one hand I couldn't give a fuck about Facebook. Not on it. Humans have got along nicely without it for a very long time but then this is being driven by Murdoch not Australian gov, and he is the true arsehole.

I'm incredibly naive but why would Facebook pay media outlets to host their content?

One ‘berg to the other : ... buzz off

Don’t worry, Frydenberg will have his notes from Murdoch with him.

It'll be 'The Battle Of The Berg's'...Zucker & Fryden 🤨🙄

Nothing is free - if you rely so heavily on a private enterprise, you've to question your decision-making.

Really? How do we factcheck this? I rather suspect that Josh is speaking to a 22 year old, 'Head of Asia Pacific region' but doesn't want to appear insignificant....

People always complain that the government doesn't represent them and lies for votes/propaganda. Australian politicians are not covered internationally, only locally. Without facebook they cannot reach the world, let alone the elecorate. Reduced diplomatic footprint /power vacuum

Frydenberg is out of his depth and is in no way smart enough to handle this.

Seems FB decided their behavioural futures prediction engine gained little from AU and Islands news searches, and so FB's predicted futures ad sales would suffer little. eg 27:30; emotion prediction 47:00; in AU, NZ 52:00; optimism 1:09:00 auspol

All the news should be grateful to have a platform or else they all can go back to print newpaper

Battle of the bergs

Joshie is way way out of his element here

FB makes 23 million USD a day thru advertising. It's free for account holders because the more accounts the more they charge advertisers. They have sold opinions, photos to political parties and others to market and spam stuff to your inbox and phones

I doubt Zuckerberg will get through to the thick head he will be speaking to. Only if Unka Rupe tells him to back down will there be a result.

We are fucked if its up to frydenberg to get things sorted. Remember it is his govt that fucked it up in the first place

Second note I hope Facebook pulls out of Australia. This result is a classic of making decisions with unintended consequences! Obviously not well thought through.

Stop misleading. You say “Government wants news companies paid for the online content tech companies share”. No the media wants to be paid for voluntarily posting its own content on a platform.

Power hungry nerds 🤣🤣🤣

Two bergs, does that mean that something big is going down in a titanic way.

The government wants to tell Facebook THEY have to pay media for media to be on Facebook. Yet every other user of Facebook can set up a page Free ? The bullying is from Government not Facebook !

Get rid of some foreign media that holds no responsibility to fake news, gossips and not liable to local lawsuits unlike MSM. Enough of info overload , from sources like FB that pays no taxes , accumulates fake duplicate accounts including pple who passed away years ago.

This could be easily solved if Facebook charged users a fee to access their service. Facebook could then pay copyright holders for the circulation of their content. Everyone seems to be forgetting Facebook is free to users.

Send in the ATO to get the hundreds of millions in corporate taxes. JoshFrydenberg ScottMorrisonMP SkyNewsAust

If the government were serious they would close tax loopholes and force google and facebook to pay tax here on revenue generated here rather than in singapore or some other place offshore.

Not sure why it's so difficult for Frydenberg to get. Facebook are doing the sums on whichever is more profitable. Paying Murdoch or just having less traffic in Australia through the site. In their mind it's the latter.

dear Facebook I am cheering you on, you have done at lot to highlight the legislative incompetence of The Australian government, and our rent seeking media. Carry on!

I run a small news and information site. I employ 2 people. Get around 2k hits a day. can I get $? Of course not....only Rupert! The liberal govt is so corrupt

Battle of the Berg's!

If only the feds put as much effort into making corporations pay their fair share of tax as they do making corporations pay Murdoch 🤷🏻‍♀️

To hell with Facebook
