| Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said NATO has “no open door” for his country to join the military alliance, in a fresh and stronger signal that he is looking for some kind of settlement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
His comments came as Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met for a fifth day of talks, aimed at ceasing hostilities and ultimately securing a Russian withdrawal.Ukrainian officials have welcomed a more constructive attitude from the Russian side, and seem ready to discuss Russia’s demand that Ukraine never join NATO.But other Kremlin asks, such as formal recognition of Russia’s claim on Crimea, or independence for the Donbas region, would be much harder for Mr Zelensky to swallow.
“Either we will agree at the current talks, or the Russians will make a second attempt [at invading] and then there will be talks again.”Even if there is a ceasefire in the offing, the “security reality on the European continent” has been changed forever, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said before a summit of the alliance’s defence ministers on Wednesday.
But a convoy of humanitarian aid again reportedly failed to get through. The mayor has put the death toll in Mariupol at about 2350 - which would represent about one in 200 of the city’s population. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government also slapped a 35 per cent additional tariff on Russian vodka and banned exports to Russia of luxury goods.
Russia said it would put sanctions on a cluster of top US officials, including US President Joe Biden, his son Hunter, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, his spokeswoman Jen Psaki, and, oddly, former presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton.
Yeah, he should have cleared his stance in the Beginning, but his Ego costed Ukrainian people a life long of Pain. Russia never went to US NATO borders, it was them who came to Russian Borders. KremlinRussia_E but POTUS won't allow this now,as they have vested interests
Now its too late.
