Zane Jamison was told he would be in hospital for seven to 10 days to treat wounds on his legs caused by complications from a bone marrow transplant. He died months later, with his family saying he 'rotted from the outside in'.

Nicole Harrison promised her nephew she would ensure no other family would have to go through what theirs has.

The GvHD attacked Mr Jamison's skin, and he was admitted to the Launceston General Hospital in January 2016.Ms Harrison said he was told he would be in hospital for seven to 10 days to treat two palm-sized wounds on his legs resulting from the disease.Ms Harrison said during those months of treatment, her nephew developed stage 4 pressure sores on his backside, with the muscle rotting down to the bone.

When they arrived, the family was told not to touch anything on Mr Jamison's body because a doctor had requested an autopsy, which required everything to remain as it was. "I rang the city coroner … he said, 'I'm afraid there's nothing I can do once the doctors have signed the death certificate.'"The cause of death given on Mr Jamison's death certificate was chronic sepsis due to GvHD. But Ms Harrison wants to know if his pressure sores played a role."We would have answers whether it was the GvHD or whether it was perhaps septicaemia from pressure wounds [that caused his death].

"Around 20 per cent of those people will progress to a more complicated form of graft vs host disease, and sadly up to about half of those people will actually pass away.

I knew Zane, I made him food & bought him clothes. He should’ve never been in Launceston Hosp they don’t trained Drs to treat complex GVHD. He had care at Brisbane BMT unit, no family visited ever! With no family he made decision to go TAS. A choice w heartbreaking consequences.

Unfortunate young man. Sad for his family. My sincere condolences🌷. Thomas
