Young Australians have spoken about the challenges of living amid the COVID-19 pandemic on Q+A, but have come under fire for "complaining" from a self-described "boomer".
He also attacked the Government decision to revise fee structures for university degrees, and accused those in power of failing young Australians."Sixteen members of the Coalition Government went to university for free. The Arts Minister proposing this change, enforcing it, has three arts degrees," he said.
"The majority of people that have taken money out of their super during the pandemic have used it to pay off debts and pay down their mortgage," he said. "Why are all these young people complaining?" asked Maria Hreglich, from Mosman in Sydney's north shore.
This is why we have a huge mental health problem. People speak about how they are feeling about COVID & they are labelled as complaining, by the same generation that were concerned when iso started about placing limits on food. It’s ok to not be ok & it’s certainly ok to say it.
Young people always complain, it's there job
babyboomers has less competitors in the market, the house realestate price is reasonable. Nowadays, Wages do not grow in Australia but the properties has gone skyrocketed
The “We worked hard and bought a house for $25K that’s now worth $2.5M” line really doesn’t wash. 100x increase, incomes 10x in similar period
While less than 6 months is doing it tough, laughable! However the anti sports call doesn’t highlight the MSM besotted by sport stars
Ah, the generation that had jobs with holidays and sick pay and not 'gigs', had employers that valued them and didn't try and rob them blind, could save money, buy a house, afford to put into pensions. No self-righteous entitlement there then.
Our youth is a reflection of ourselves.
Peoples opinions, are just that. I stopped watching this boring program years ago. There are no facts, just personal views and expressions of judgement.
I question ABC's ulterior motive in splitting Australians into opposite sides. Shouldn't we try to identify common grounds instead during these incredibly testing times? Moving forward will require plenty of empathy. Pointing fingers is unhelpful. ABC fueling this is disturbing.
Why Because, with an ageing population, ALL policy is skewed towards self-funded retirees and their self-interest. Good government governs for all, whether they can vote or not.
Generation COVID 🙄 please
I’m betting this story was written some time last week, waiting only on the visuals from the show to be inserted.
Gee I wonder, the future looks grim and the best years of people's lives are being shredded by disaster after disaster, can't imagine why they'd complain
I’m thinking of the Q+A producers throwing around ideas prior to the show to “increase engagement”. “I know, let’s get a boomer panel member to say something inflammatory about millennials”. Always good for clicks!
That's what millennials do, complain. 'It's all about me, why is this happening to me'. genx
Cause you fucking refused to pay negative gearing.
Generation this and that is a journalist construct and has little to do with actuality.
Q&A is EXACTLY the sort of show a question like that would be posed on lol
Placing two generations at war with each other no wonder why there is no respect between the two generations why they are at each other’s throats this virus situation was caused by two adults that dragged an entire world into there war and now we are all suffering
