Advocates and lawyers say Queensland's youth justice system is at crisis point, with some juveniles reportedly held in adult watch houses for weeks at a time.

A juvenile being held in an adult watch house for more than a month, kids sleeping in shower stalls on mats, and children being denied access to fresh air and sunlight are examples of Queensland's youth justice system at crisis point, advocates and lawyers say.

Ms Hayes said the experiences for young people in watch houses at the moment have been "dehumanising and traumatising" and could lead to an increased likelihood of reoffending. Katherine Hayes says the "crisis" of the conditions for youths in Queensland watch houses is not being addressed. The Four Corners story, which revealed serious incidents of children held in watch houses in appalling conditions for weeks, caused the Queensland government to set up a new department and remove most children from watch houses.

The law changes were sparked by a number of high-profile incidents committed by young offenders, including

Where are the parents and what are they doing about it?

it is vital that the victims of crime are listened to. There is no positive outcome if youth that commit serious crimes are slapped on the wrist and set free to commit the same crimes day after day. It is soul destroying to the victims. Do something to fix this. auspol

Well don't misbehave, simple

Good. They'll end up there eventually anyway so might as well get them used to it.

Fine by me .

There was always a victim to what these scumbag kids did on the outside, let's support them and let scum rot in hell instead of this crappy reporting

oh, that's okay. Australia is a democracy, not some sort of 'regime' like China or Russia... there won't be any sanctions from so-called international community, and human rights watch won't do anything

Shame on Australia

You do the crime, you do the time🤷

Dont do crime.

They did something to deserve it. Stop committing crimes.

Wtf

It’s done so next time they grab that machete and hand gun to steal a car or rob a house they might think twice. I’m sick of hearing, poor children locked up.

That is sad, but at least they are getting some connection between action, and consequence.

Throw some toys in.

Their not victims their criminals.

More of it and maybe they might stop being criminals.

Where are the Advocates empathy for the victims? How many times have these grubs been catched and released? How many young criminals in youth detention have turned 18 and not transferred to the big boy prisons? This would free up room at the Juvenile Detention Centres.

It might teach them to obey the laws and stop being a little criminal

If only Government would actually build something rather than taking all our taxes to put pro-Labor bums on seats. Ohh. How sad.

Easy fix, dont commit crimes and be arseholes.

Don’t break the law then kiddies.

Is there a line? What did these young people do?

Boo hoo

Queensland government taking profit ‘out of electricity networks’: Keith PittOne of the biggest issues facing Queensland is the amount of profit the state government is “taking out of Queensland electricity networks”, according to Nationals MP Keith Pitt. “There is one retailer for the majority of Queenslanders, and that is Ergon, it is owned by the state government,” Mr Pitt told Sky News Australia. “The federal government’s done a deal with Queensland, they could’ve asked for those prices to be reduced, and they can literally do it today.”
