The 34-year-old father killed by electrocution on Monday leaves many in the Stuart Highway town of Tennant Creek mourning his loss.

The tragic death of a young father in an industrial incident has left a close-knit outback Territory town reeling.Mates in Construction is reaching out to people in Tennant Creek, hoping to offer support following the tragedy

Mr Suratin's death came five days after another man was crushed by an electrical switchboard while working at the Palmerston Police Station The town of Tennant Creek is"in shock" following the tragic death of 34-year-old Derick Suratin, local MLA Gerry McCarthy said. Mr Suratin was electrocuted on Monday while doing electrical works on the roof of the Tennant Creek Fire Station.Mr McCarthy said it was a devasting event for the local community."I send my sincere condolences to that family — I know that family.An organisation that aims to prevent suicide in the construction sector is reaching out to people in Tennant Creek, hoping to offer support following the tragedy.

"We only have a couple of people who are trained by us down there at the moment and they're doing a wonderful job," said Matthew Hull, the field officer for Mates in Construction.He said while waiting for answers about what caused the tragic incident, the group wanted to focus on the reverberating effects on the community.
