A devastating moment in the lead-up to the World Cup. 😢 9WWOS Cricket

Pakistan batsman Asif Ali will take his place in the World Cup squad for next week’s tournament in England, despite the death of his 19-month-old daughter on the weekend.

Asif was yesterday named as a late inclusion in the squad, along with fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz. The trio replace Abid Ali, Junaid Khan and Faheem Ashraf. Before joining his teammates Asif has the heartbreaking task of attending his daughter’s funeral, after she lost her battle with cancer.“Thanks everyone for you support, love, messages & prayers during this tough time.”

Pakistan Prime Minister, and World Cup winning captain, Imran Khan, was amongst those to pass on his sympathies to Asif. “My condolences and prayers go to Asif Ali & his family on the passing of his daughter from cancer,” he tweeted.
