For all those saying 'Why if they're reusable?' fine, you should have plenty at home to keep reusing so no need for you to buy any more right? Why is this so hard for the Eastern States? Just take your own bags.

Yes, protect the environment for our future generations. It’s a no brainer

I’m not sure reusable plastic is the issue. Woolworths and other super markets use and waste more plastic than the customers,

I can't understand why they replaced plastic bags with plastic bags in the first place regardless of whether or not they are reusable bags . 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I really need a bag to carry my groceries. Oh I know, I’ll use the thin bags they use for fruits and veggies. I’ll bet they’d ban them too.

Let's ban other things like balloons...or stop wrapping fresh produce in plastic... plastic milk bottles etc

Ha ha, we should phase out the drug feind greens and reuse plastic bags and increase the price of them.

9NewsMelb Can’t remember where I got them, but for fresh fruit/Vegas I have fine mesh bags of various sizes and don’t use plastic bags. I also always take my own bags with me. Laughable really because they say Coles all over them and now I don’t live anywhere near a Coles Store now.

You bet and the sooner the better.. if you’re too forgetful then you’ll soon learn to bring a bag!!

Bring back good old paper bags 🤣🤣

9NewsPerth Never !!! They are much tougher than paper bags.

But you can still buy plastic bags inside the store? If they want to make a difference they should give out free paper bags or boxes like Aldi does.

I thought that was the plan all along

Yea they should remove all single use packaging too

9NewsMelb No

Just higher price tags on more. Y'all act like you wanna go green and shit but it's about money at the end of the day.

We offer $2 reusable bags at point of sale or a free box to put your products in. Haven’t had plastic bags for over 2 years and it works very well.

But I need my rubbish bags.

How about phasing out useless plastic kids toys.

Is this a joke the world is going to the crapper and your debating this! Yes get rid of them and all the rest of the plastic rubbish in the world.

They should follow the law. If the law does not stipulate phasing out bags then the government should take appropriate action.

YES

About time

It was supposed to be ban all plastic bags originally to save the environment then they started charging people so technically it was just a scam 🤣

YES Malcolm Lum

What will they do with that lost revenue stream add the cost elsewhere. I wonder how much they profit per annum from the bags

Unless you regularly walk into Woolworths without any pants on, I’m sure you’ll eventually remember to bring a fucking bag everytime you go shopping. Pants, wallet…bags.

9NewsPerth My local shop has already got rid of plastic in favour of paper brown bags

What bogans are still using plastic bags 😆 🤣

9NewsMelb No no no.

No store that charges customers for any bags should have the store name on it. They are getting free advertising and actually making the customer PAY for it with every bag they sell

I'm more impressed that wollies and Coles supermarket support LGBTQ+-÷× than the plastic bag... Oh and I don't care if they got caught underpaying their staff....

Is it safe to assume that the paper bags will be recycled paper

Supermarkets should be obligated to give free paper bags. So much burden for the consumers to pay for plastic bag.

They need to phase out the non recyclable meat packaging. At least with the plastic bags you can recycle them.

What about the food that's wrapped in plastic? Are you going to ban them as well?

The supermarkets never adjusted plastic bag costs into their prices when they started to charge for the bags.

Of course. Buy a good bag or shopping trolley. We need to think about those who come after us. We expect knuckle draggers to complain

9NewsMelb Just wondering how I will carry 6 apples, 4 bananas, some ham, salami, milk, bread, ice cream, yoghurt, potatoes, onions, pasta, carrots, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, razors, chocolate, salt, Vegemite, nutrition grain, rice, tomato paste, baked beans and noodles?

9NewsPerth Get rid of the proxy face masks. Imagine the landfill with those. climatechange

As someone who has Dementia I hope they keep them. I don't always remember to take bags with me when I go shopping. I'm happy to pay for them and reuse them or recycle them.

All most everything in the supermarkets is rapped or concealed in plastic even the fruit & vegetables plastic bags to put them in. So it makes no difference. plastic bags or not your going home with a shit load of plastic

9NewsSyd Why not? In Europe Italy, Austria and France already did that.

9NewsMelb There are reusable as their name suggests. Are not they? I think they are not making money out if them that is why they are phasing them out. I am more concerned about plastics in the fruit area and other products

9NewsQueensland Yes

Maybe as shoppers we could just axe Woolworths

9NewsSyd Yes

NO

When will people realise that recycling just uses more energy. Is making reusable paper bags not possible?. And at the end of their life, be used as compost?

The reusable fabric bags are ok. But when it comes to meat products i use these reusable plastic bags.

9NewsMelb Yes. Phase out pre-packaged vegetables and fruit too thanks.

as long as they offer paper bags or cardboard boxes to take your purchases away corporations can’t use the excuse of ‘environmentally friendly’ to increase their profits and lower their expenditures

9NewsAdel From a 15c bag to a 20c bag that’s the real story, what’s the markup on the paper bag to make more expensive than the plastic bag

Went to the butcher, got a kilo of mince in my hands......

9NewsAdel Yes

I’ll just have to start taking my groceries home in the trolley like the old days lmao

9NewsMelb I’ll walk home with your basket woolworths

like everything else it is about the $$$$ they are not making enough out of them anymore

Forgot your bags? Not a problem, just use the trolley to take the stuff home & then dump the trolley on the nature strip beside the other abandoned ones which will litter the neighborhood.

9NewsAdel Why if they're reusable? Maybe govts should help companies invest in developing recycling of these rather than just banning them.

ALDI's plastic bags you are able to iron on the image of the bag to a white t-shirt, not sure abouts woolies though.

9NewsSyd I don’t mind supermarket phasing out reusable bags. I bring my own bags and some plastic bags folded up in my handbag in case. Supermarkets should promote the RedCycle program more. I’ve been actively using it. Takeaway shops and other fresh food merchants need plastic for leaks

Sure. Why not. And while we’re at it ban cars houses trains clothes and everything else. Just sit under a rock and don’t breathe

I don't drive but i always have a fabric Woolies bag in my back pocket , just this year i have saved using hundreds of plastic bags .It's easy and it makes a lot of sense.

9NewsDarwin We should phase out the multi national supermarket instead!

I use them as storage bags for things as they are plastic and safe to leave things in. If they get recycled whats the problem?

Brown paper ... Brown. Paper ... bags

9NewsMelb Why? Those r reusable. Everytime I shop, I purchase them if I have forgotten to take one. And when one plastic bag fills with other bags, I go and dump them back in the woolies plastic bin. Its like normal recycling. How is that harmful to environment?

If there are adequate replacements in place right now, sure. If not, no.

No :(
