Wayne Swan says the Productivity Commission’s Danielle Wood is “completely out of touch” with her warnings about subsidies for green manufacturing. Follow updates here.

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor has described the Albanese government’s green manufacturing proposal as an inappropriate use of taxpayer’s funds that risks fuelling inflation. Taylor said while the Coalition supported increasing local manufacturing and the tightening of rules around sovereignty for critical minerals, it was concerned about the stimulus contained in Labor’s Future Made in Australia Act and its potential effects on the economy and budget position.

” Taylor said the government should focus instead “on the fundamentals” including providing businesses with affordable, reliable energy and improving the industrial relations system. He said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was drawing comparisons to the proposal and the United States’ Inflation Reduction Act, which directs federal funding to support clean energy through tax breaks, grants and loan guarantees.
