According to Homelessness Australia's latest 2022-23 report, 45 per cent of Australian women seeking homelessness support services cite domestic violence as the key reason.
A recently posted Reddit thread, with hundreds of comments, lists safe car parks along Perth's coastline where people can spend the night."Unless I was being hurt that day or in severe need of accommodation right then and there, they weren't going to help me," she said."You would continue to ring heaps of places but you're on a waiting list.
"It's all the things that would form part of somebody's essential daily life if you were living in a property managing with life," Ms Wood said."Over the last number of months, we've seen a huge increase in the amount of people who just cannot make ends meet … arriving to our community hubs with their lives in the back of their car," Ms Wood said.Health Researcher Lisa Wood said the link between domestic violence and homelessness often went unseen.
