Police have been out in force over the Easter long weekend, targeting people who disobey strict new social distancing and quarantine rules.

• Five people were issued $5000 in fines after police were called to a hotel on Kinghorne St, Nowra, following reports of a disturbance between a group of people, which had spilt out into the car park. Checks revealed the pair had been stopped the day before and warned about isolation rules after they said they were out “killing time”.

• Six outlaw motorcycle gang members were caught gathering in cars on Flinders St in the Melbourne CBD overnight. Individuals caught doing the wrong thing can cop a fine of $1334, with that bumped up to $6672 for corporations.• A Cairns man was slapped with a fine after being caught driving to Port Douglas to go on a Tinder date.

• Several people were also understood to be fined for driving to Willawong tip, in Brisbane’s outer suburbs, to dump rubbish. The 34-year-old flew into Western Australia from Qatar on March 30 and was required to quarantine for 14 days at a hotel in Perth before returning home.
