A Bendigo court orders a woman charged with child stealing to provide a DNA sample after she refused to cooperate with authorities.

A woman accused of pretending to be an au pair and stealing two children will be forced to have her photo and a DNA sample taken, the Bendigo Magistrates' Court has heard. The court heard she had earlier been refusing to provide the DNA samplewith two children, aged four years old and 10 months old.Police alleged she forged documents to gain work as an au pair.

She was also charged with handling stolen goods for allegedly being found with a passport and drivers licence belonging to a Brighton East woman in July. In court today police prosecutor Senior Constable Dave Rennie made an application for a compulsory procedure to force Ms Azzopardi to provide her photo and a DNA sample.

Mr Rennie told the court she had so far refused and"a number of outstanding matters would be resolved if she is forced to provide that information".Magistrate Ross Betts granted the police application to force her to comply. Ms Azzopardi failed to show up at court on Monday, after the court was told she was in hospital awaiting an MRI."I've been instructed not to apply for bail," Mr McLennan said.
