The family of two men killed when their fishing boat capsized in waters off South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula said they are in “shock” following the tragedy. Three people were killed when a large wave capsized their boat near Spilsby Island, about 45km from Port Lincoln. Two others on the boat survived. Police found Danny Eckert, 44, and his 13-year-old son clinging to a reef on Tuesday morning after their boat overturned about 10 hours earlier.
“His pride and joy were his two boys, aged four and six, we can’t express in words how much he will be missed,” Tess Eckert said. “He would have fought so hard to get back to us ... We love him endlessly.” Tess said her sons would also miss their “grandpapa Paul” and she extended her condolences to the family of Alan Bottrill. The search for the fishing boat began on Monday evening when loved ones became concerned the group did not return to Port Lincoln.
