“Do what you love” is a saying we are all familiar with, but is such a sentiment responsible for the career confusion many of us feel in adulthood? | OPINION

As snap lockdowns continue across Australia, many parents are getting an unexpected insight into their children’s education as we move from a supporting role to the forefront. Should we also be dishing out career advice?

I hated my dad badgering me about my intentions in life. 40yrs on I still don’t know what I want 2do with myself. As a result I never asked or told my kids what they should or should not do with their lives. Both of them have completed Uni &r working in fields they chose 2work in This looked promising - addressing the sticky issue of hyper-individualised self brand exercising that poisonous contemporary media imparts on us. The feeling that we're being watched at all times. A career is not the answer, that's only a labour exchange. Throw away your TV. The base acceptance of these new media norms, the totalised hyper-individuated commodified persona, which are psychological damaging and very, very bad for us, and trying to alter your child's attitudes by telling them to pick a nice career? You've lost the battle already.

Why China's rise is a 'wildcard' for how things could play out in AfghanistanAustralia closed its embassy in Kabul back in May, but China, Russia and Pakistan are staying put for now. Here's why. So why did you leave? It’s in their national interest, same words Morrison and Payne like to use a lot. If the west failed to change anything for 20 years, they should just shut up about it.
