Taiwan may soon become the first territory in Asia to mandate a four-day work week, as experts and exhausted employees warn of a dangerous culture of overworking.

“The customer is running, you need to have the same speed with your customer - so if the customer continues to run, I cannot stop it,” he told Sky News Australia.

It’s also considerably easier for Taiwan to secure international support - and military protection – when much of the world depends on Taiwanese chips.Those maintaining this shield, however, are suffering.“During the weekdays I usually don’t have time to talk to my kids. “I would assume most Taiwanese are overworked,” labour law expert, Professor Chia-He Lin of the National Cheng-Chi University told Sky News Australia.“Work has become the recognition of worth in our society.”

Taiwan’s government tightened limits on working hours in 2016, introduced a cap of 46-hours per month on overtime and increased inspections of companies thought to be breaching labour laws.Taiwan could soon become the first territory in Asia to make four-day work weeks mandatory across the board. She admits the service and construction industries could find the change particularly difficult to implement and may require businesses to hire more staff.
