Comment: Why not to be sucked in by the 'confidence industrial complex' | KZiwica

, their book for women on how to get ahead at work, around five years ago the mantra for any female with a desire for more seniority or a wage closer to that of her male contemporaries was "know your value" – and do your level best to project self-belief as that will reinforce your case.

As a long-time observer of and worker for the cause of gender equality, I have seen countless takes on the general message that if women adopt a "confident" facade their fortunes will rise to match it. I've come to think of this whole sub-genre of books, TED talks and mentoring programs aimed at helping women solve their own pay or seniority gap as "the confidence industrial complex". Behind it is the assumption that it's our own fault we're starting from behind.

Mounting evidence is showing that simply acting "confident" is not delivering results for women, and to suggest a lack of that magical quality is to blame for the gender pay gap or lack of women's representation in leadership roles is flat out wrong.

What do they want government to do about it? Why should you care? Somethings I don't think we should know like millitary plans because it only tells the 'others' whats going on. Nation security plans either. In a Nation emergency these would be different. righttohypocrisy is more accurate mategate ruokscott beetrooter MichaelOReilly_ So I want to know what this campaign is about, yet I’m hit with a paywall trying to find out. Seems rather ironic don’t you think? TLDR; my RightToKnow is limited by my ability (or desire) to pay for access to the information I have a right to know. 🤨
