Upstairs in the courtroom there were gasps of surprise when the jury's verdict was read aloud.
"He was a sacrificial lamb," said Minneapolis resident Alana Ramadan, who like Noor is black and Muslim. "We want to see justice for everyone who is killed by police. It has not gone un-noted here that the first officer in the state to go to jail for murdering a civilian is black." Speaking after the verdict, community activist John Thompson said Noor was probably guilty. But so were many white officers who had shot a civilian and gone unpunished.
