Bill Shorten was anticipated to win the election comfortably, but Queensland had other ideas. 9News

"The idea that this place is unwelcoming of centre-left progressive governments is a nonsense," Mr Rudd said in the aftermath of the election.

That's cold comfort to the Albanese opposition, facing another three years in the Canberra wilderness. One prominent Queensland Labor figure told 9News that the party needed to "bridge the two Australias"."Personality matters in Queensland, and that's why Morrison campaigned the socks off Shorten."The previous weeks of campaigning don't matter to most people, the senior Labour figure told 9News."Most people only re-engage in the last few days.

The controversial Adani coal mine took a heavy toll on federal Labor, which wasn't helped by the Palaszczuk government's perceived dithering on the issue. In Dawson, LNP MP George Christensen was considered a dead man walking because of the time he spent in the Philippines. In the seat of Capricornia, LNP incumbent Michelle Landry enjoyed an 11-point swing as well.Mr Albanese has already put a focus on Queensland front-and-centre.

And the Opposition Leader said this week he would support the Adani mine if it passes the final environment tests. The bridging of the two Australias has begun, expect to hear a lot more pro-Queensland rhetoric over the next three years because – as Mr Albanese knows - if his party had held steady everywhere else, but only lost narrowly, instead of losing big, to the LNP in Queensland, they would have formed government.

Oh the hypocrisy from the ABC is vomit worthy. The ABC on the LNP ,,, !!!!!! NAZI's !!!!!! The ABC on Labor ,,, the Labor Party must take a more rigorous look at these laws. Vomit on vomit from the ABC. You are only saying this because you got raided by the same government goons you kept praising and lying about their policies being somehow so credible & that only they could save us from nasty ALP. Your credibility is in the gutter right now. Don't feel so good now, do you? So some Labor MPs have demanded that the opposition act in a manner consistent with that which is expected of oppositions? Are they suggesting that the current Labor leadership group have failed to do this in the past. Did they really just kick an own goal and get away with it?🤣
