Breaking the US market has always been tough for Australian musicians, but a recent 250 per cent spike in visa fees means acts looking to tour now face staggering obstacles before they’ve even packed their bags.
Melbourne band Northeast Party House recently spent around $20,000 in fees and administration to travel to the US. “People have the funding to get themselves over there and back ... but they haven’t factored in a $15,000 allowance for visa processing.
