Working from home has much to recommend it – although the true crime podcasts are piling up | ThatAmelia

All over the US, those lucky enough to work in offices are beginning to think about returning to them. We’ve heard a lot about the downside of remote work over the last year: the talk has morphed from “Zoom fatigue” to the more insidious-sounding “cybersickness”, which is when you stare at your screen for so long you start to feel a stomach churn akin to journeying the high seas.

You’re routinely looking into people’s living rooms, but it’s harder to get to know colleagues when working remotely.Closing the laptop is a definitive way of saying goodbye to the imaginary friends for the night. This flexibility is especially important in the States because part-time work, at least in the desk-bound arena, is practically unheard of. Also, with no guarantee of parental leave, employers seldom grant more than six weeks away.
