The drink containers went to the local Downs Syndrome Association, which collects them and claims the 10c deposit as a fundraiser."On the one hand, there's all these people yelling at us about how we're not looking after their planet. And then on the next hand, they just dropped their plastic food wrapper on the ground.Mr O'Malley is always prepared for other people's litter on his bush walks.
"People litter if they think that others have kind of trashed an area or it's not worth preserving," he says."People are not likely to throw the first cup down." "People will always add the trash that's already on the ground, they will not be the first one to throw it down."Professor Sarre cited broken windows theory, where a building with a broken window will continue to see windows broken.
I think people sometimes take the phrase “You have to make your mark on this world” a bit too literally.
I used to go camping in places like that. I'd spend a few days there and clean it up, taking the garbage when I left. The council, however, started charging 'camping licences', so I don't clean it up anymore. Council can use my licence fees to do it instead.
People need to be taught self respect because a large portion of society has none and are not learning themselves. From self respect comes respect for others and one's surroundings.
Most of us don't, but those who do left their maid behind. Ungrateful spoiled people.
It’s not just parks and beaches. Look around the roads within a few hundred metres of any take away or drive through fast food outlet. Once it’s out the window it’s not their problem, once they leave the beach or park it’s not their problem. Need to make it their problem.
the big question is why cleanup to give more space to litterers
'We'? There is no 'we' here. I leave a place better than I found it. Drunks do this.
Idk ask the abo community
SOME people just love to visit beautiful places and trash them. It is strange
First Nations camp site
Bronte beach Xmas day. Majority of the people there GenZ and millennials. You know…the ones constantly protesting about the environment… auspol
Easy! Because it doesn't belong to them. Good old human nature!
Because we're a country of bogans.
I live in a small town. Every holidays our bins get completely overfull and rubbish is dumped everywhere, especially in the bush. People are pigs, lazy and just don't care as once they go it's not their problem
The last 3 generations have no respect. Used food packaging, drink containers and anything else people are too lazy to carry to a bin or take home are thrown on the ground in the streets, beaches parks etc. I was taught to put my rubbish in a bin
One reason is laziness. Another is no bins provided by councils.
This is why these places get shut down to good 4wders
😢😢
Maybe they care too much about climate change.
'The new generation!!!' 🙌🙌🙌
One thing’s for sure, the Japanese don’t leave behind such a mess.
I feel bad if i leave any bit rubbish anywhere myself this kinds of people are worthless, Make them feel terrible for doing it that's how
It's not we it's you

ABC finds a new angle to get rid of Australia Day
Interesting look at how we can manage and maintain our public goods and services when they remain non-exclusive (thereby dealing with a free rider problem, however that is not an excuse for no responsible) publicgoods
Probably woke climate changer warriors
Staged.
I pick up cans and bottles every day when I take my dog for a walk. People have become selfish and lazy.
'We'
Because we are scum and can't be trusted with nice things.
It shows an increasing lack of respect of anyone or anything except what suits themselves. So sad!!
For the same reason we do not see covid as a collective responsibility?
Head out to any aboriginal camp anywhere in regional Australia and the picture you posted will look like a five star resort!
We made picking up litter a punishment in schools. Rather than a point of self respect, for others, and common good.
Because we are lazy, selfish narcissists.
No excuse but tipping fees are very expensive, we buy too many poor quality cheap goods and basically there are a large number of people who could not care less .
photo is set up. typical abc
It's disgusting! I'm all for increased fines for tossers, maybe even community work sentences for repeating offenders.
Ppl are arse...
That's Australia Day for you. In Tasmania, it's a day for bogans to drive onto the beach in utes draped in Australian flags. Great day to stay home...or better still, march!
Self centred biggots. A product of our new expectant culture. So very unfortunately. Expectant of someone else to clean up for them.
Well…like everything else we have stopped promoting being Australian. Remember the bin-it adverts and keep Australia clean adverts. It build a sense of national pride and values. We don’t have that now…but need to restart if we are to keep Australia great.
That's clean compared to after climate rallies...
Nobody I know would do that to the environment and their all white.
why do people leave parks and beaches looking like this most of the time.. because they only have a sense of self, no sense of community, expect others to clean up their shit.
Who is “we”? I don’t know anyone who behaves like that… Australia has become dirtier over the years as the population has increased & will continue to go to the dogs
Ferals do that.
I'd bet they'd have 'Love it or leave' stickers on their cars, Southern Cross tattoos and wave Chinese made, Australian flags, to show how much they really love Australia.
