When a Muslim person dies, their body must be washed, shrouded, and laid to rest directly on the earth. But coronavirus is disrupting these death rituals.

For Muslims, cremation is not only prohibited, it's viewed as a desecration of the deceased.

And, according to Ms Ardati, it's causing panic,"because these are rights that are afforded to people in death, just as someone has rights afforded to them while they're alive".When a Muslim person dies, their body is honoured with four rituals. "Then there's a communal prayer that's offered for the deceased, and that's when the whole community comes together," explains Ms Ardati..

Times change, When in Australia do as we do not what procedures you bring with you and demand you are able to practise them.

We cant see their greiving faces behind their ninja costumes 😂

My imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend. Blah blah blah.

HEY its no wonder that ABC has comments turned off on most their youtube videos.... ABC gets butchered on twitter... they would be commented out of existence on youtube if they had all comments open.

ABC: Pushing their propaganda yet again however this time revealing who's agenda/s they are pushing.

No reason to cremation. Bodies are normally buried deeper with the use of lime. So lets not get hysterical Australia. I support normal burial for Muslims, Jews and Christians. Others can perform cremation if they choose.

Contrary to common belief, there is no evidence that corpses pose a risk of epidemic disease. Most agents do not survive long in the human body after death, especially viruses. The exceptions are in a few special cases, such as deaths from cholera or haemorrhagic fevers.

Every faith has customs regarding funerals. It is a very difficult issue to deal with. May authorities do the best for all faiths as possible, prayers for our communities. Peace be with everyone.

It is good to learn new things. I was unaware of certain religious/cultural practices.

Blah blah blah my imaginary friend in the sky isn't saving me, wake up sheep

Awww you can't perform your silly little rituals.. My heart BLEEDS...

The world is facing 'grief'......understand the world!!

It’s 2020, God still helps those who help themselves.

Wrong! As a muslim i do not agree with this. I should not be suprised you are reporting with uneducated people. It is well documented that Islam at any given time when a body dies of disease or many die during war that the bodies are burnt to stop disease.

uses a mobile phone and internet but still living in the Dark Age

Oh...boo hoo hoo... FFS... it's a ritual invented by humans... NOT demanded by your god or any of the other non-existent deities... Seriuosly... why do people continue to believe in non-existent entities and allow their shamans to tell them how to live their lives...

Well, this triggered the hell out of the trolls and the bigots!

What has an ancient cult got to do with anything ?

Dear abc, why do u show Muslim in hijab always, it's Arab tradition, most Aussie Muslim don't wear hijab, it's not religious but Arab women oppression sign

Not all Muslims' corpses must be washed, there are some cases in which corpses should not be washed. And Islam explains everything, just do your research and you will find the answer.

Perhaps the Muslims and Jews so affected could explain why God allowed the pandemic to develop in the first place?

Madness. Mandate cremations for all confirmed cases. Religion be damned.

Dressing to outrance effects ecological declination, dust bowl. In dust coats. Should never have become religious law. After death, our bodies are spent. Buried preserved in jar of alcohol.? Never fear gramercy of change. MuslimCouncil GuardianAus saudinews50_en RT_com

Bloody move out of the Middle Ages , seriously .

This is affecting everyone regardless of religion. No one religion should have more advantage than another. Pray to your God

ABC stop the reverse discrimination by pretending that ceertain community groups are suffering worse compared to others. We are all in this crisis together and all suffering the same.

We have to adapt...many catholic Italians are suffering as funerals are different in this climate. It’s so sad. We have to know in our hearts that their souls will be at peace. And the church leaders must appease their people

So what happens in a plane crash where the Muslim passengers are incinerated? Or a Muslim car bomb or IED where Muslim victims are shredded into pieces?

Really clutching at straws now. It's hard to bag out the government when they are doing such a great job. ABC 🙄

Its 2020 and we can't sacrifice public health for outdated cults.

Why Australia’s virus death rate is so lowAustralia’s Health Minister has revealed why our death rate is so low compared to other nations, with the country now at the “global forefront” of testing. Let’s not jump the gun too early. jo1foster I am sick to death of this “we’re the best”, “we’re top of the table” bullshit from our political leaders. Their reputation for dishonesty means these claims just fall on deaf ears. They don’t give me any reassurance & I just continue to expect the truth to be the opposite. Not testing widely, head in sand

Despite coronavirus, some want schools to stay partially open. Here's whyCalls for schools to stay open for vulnerable kids, even through a wider lockdown. Why not use local Community Centres and their social/community service staff to offer safe spaces for vulnerable or ‘at risk’ children? Teachers are qualified educators NOT glorified babysitters. Honestly if you aren’t using your local community services what are they for? WHAT ABOUT TEACHERS! Teachers are not baby sitters. Let's not sacrifice our educators because it's easier.
