There is a cohort of Queensland prospects who have announced themselves as future Wallabies. Reds coach and former rugby league star Les Kiss needs to keep them.

Rugby’s future can be found in the Queensland Reds, and coach Les Kiss has implored the sport’s governing body to ensure young players still see a path to Wallabies success.Reds coach Les Kiss has invested in youth since arriving at Ballymore.Uncertainty over the future of the game has also left doubts over the Melbourne Rebels’ place in the competition, promptingThe path for young players is murky.

Kiss’ willingness to blood young talent has coincided with a promising start to his time at the Queensland helm. The Reds have had two wins over New Zealand rivals and only lost two other games after the full-time siren.Kiss said the Reds had invested in young players to “improve their game, keep their confidence up, and expose them to the experiences that are necessary”.“We will consistently work with RA to make sure we get the right deals we can and that’s all we can do.

“We want to make it difficult to leave, and that’s part of the deal as well and that’s where we’ll play our part. We want players to know that what we’re trying to do with the program we can offer them outside of Super Rugby.”Reds teenager Harry McLaughlin-Phillips came up with two match-winning plays against the Chiefs, while fellow playmaker Tom Lynagh was singled out for praise by Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt when he addressed the media on Wednesday.

“There’s no doubt we’d love to keep him, there’s no doubt about that. The right people are working on that, and they’ll get to the solution, and I’m pretty sure he’ll end up in the right place,” Kiss said. “He hasn’t stopped surprising me … he’s happy here, that’s for sure. I think his performances are doing the talking, RA and Joe know, they’ve seen him.”
