AGL has announced it will shut down of all of its coal-fired power plants by 2035 in response to customer, shareholder, and government pressure.

Australia's biggest carbon emitter on Thursday announced a plan to shut down all coal-fired generation by the end of fiscal year 2035, with annual greenhouse gas emissions to reduce from 40 million tonnes to net zero.

Incoming interim CEO Damien Nicks said the closures represent a major step forward in decarbonising Australia's economy. Mr Nicks said the "ambitious" strategy would provide clear long-term value for AGL and its shareholders.READ MORE

I would feel more comfortable if they said they were shutting down bcz Australia’s renewables will be ready to our needs (hint: we won’t) rather than because of pressure.

Australia is screwed. Unreliable energy managed by incompetent corrupt governments.

You forgot to mention that Brookes is one of Australias largest investors in solar farms. By forcing the closure of the plant he stands take make a fortune.
