Australians are crossing a gulf in pandemic freedoms, swapping life in locked-down cities for the coronavirus-free NT. Demographers are watching closely to see if it could solve the Territory's population woes.

When coronavirus was first taking hold in Australia, two paths unfolded before Melbourne-based artist Anna McDermott.

Ms McDermott is what Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner has called a "coronavirus refugee": someone who has crossed the gulf in Australia's COVID-19 freedoms, swapping life in locked-down southern cities for the coronavirus-free NT. The jurisdiction has now reached a key milestone for a second time: the eradication of coronavirus in clinical terms. But a government spokeswoman said more than 220 people had listed relocation as their purpose of travel to the NT on border declaration forms since late August.

Demographers are already asking whether coronavirus freedoms will become a significant driver of population growth. But the territory is also Australia's. It has shrunk year-on-year every quarter since June 2018.

Coronavirus updates LIVE: Victoria records 42 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths for first time in more than two months; Australian death toll stands at 816NSW has recorded seven new coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour reporting period. The state's daily test figure dropped to 8835, after NSW Health expressed concern yesterday that not enough people were coming forward for testing. An average of 44 people die in Victorian nursing homes every day. Has anybody seen a graph that shows incremental deaths during this period? Report hospitalisations as well. Otherwise it’s fairly useless. All these “cases” and very few actual deaths. What about focusing on the positive for e.g that 95 year old man who was isolated in hospital for 5 weeks AND SURVIVED COVID. ANd what about the fact that Aussie scientists found a cure for covid but won’t release it to the public?

Massive fine for Melbourne residents trying to head to regional Victoria when coronavirus restrictions easeVictoria Police say a new offence will be created, along with a $4,957 fine, to deter Melbourne residents from trying to head to regional Victoria, where coronavirus restrictions will significantly decrease from midnight tonight. Hey. Who can blame them? All Victorians that do not challenge fines issued to them under this lockdown in court are traitors to us all. Piss off DanAndrews. resignDanAndrews or better yet: sackDanAndrews We're all in this together. Unless an egomaniac with a savior complex continues to fracture and divide a once-great state until we're all at each other throats. When there are food shortages at Xmas, Andrews fan-fic version of the Hunger Games will finally be complete.

A breach of her human right to...*checks notes*...have a cafe Why can't you be an island, Victoria? Better yet, an island AND a separate country. 🤢🤮 This is the sort of selfishness that all Liberal Party members exhibit. Launched when the numbers are well down.
