Louise Milligan’s first crime novel tells a dark and enjoyable story.

Formidable investigative journalist Louise Milligan, who routinely takes on the establishment and makes waves, has written her first crime thriller and it’s really good. I read it over the course of an otherwise gloomy day, alternately laughing out loud at her characters’ wry observations of their situation and sighing with recognition at the regrettable sexual violence and human error that underpin the action.

As the captive Kate travels north in the company of her abductor, who is always referred to as “The Guy” and who “doesn’t get to have a name” though he does get a backstory that explains though never justifies his actions, her boyfriend Liam and best friend Sylvia spring into action.
