Have you tried to access mental health services through your GP? We want to hear about your experience.

to help you access up to 10 subsidised individual and up to 10 subsidised group sessions a year with a mental health professional.

It usually starts with a visit to your GP for a mental health care plan but you can also get a referral from a psychiatrist.Or maybe you've used it in the past but haven't renewed your plan or didn't use all of your sessions. We're keen to hear what got in the way, whether that's the cost, location, finding a time in working hours, finding childcare, or something else altogether.

Cost. I'm currently on income protection insurance due to MH issues. My industry superfund has a standard 90 day waiting period (5 year wait if I want to pay higher premiums and change to a 30 day period). I scraped through the 90 days with the help of family and friends, but....

The lack of mental health issues.

Its like going to a kid with leggo when you need to build a house

Money 💰

Because a psychology degree is what you get when you not smart enough to do psychiatry !

I went to one to tell them I had a moth complex after half an hour of me talking he stopped me and said he was an accountant and that the psychologist was next door he asked why I had entered his office and I said “the light was on”

I went to one to tell them I had a moth complex after half an hour of me talking he stopped me and said he was an accountant and that the psychologist was next door he asked why I had entered his off and I said “the light was on”

They don’t get me

My superfund ruled thru any ‘mental health or anxiety’ related income protection insurance because I responded honestly that I’d sought support (police advice) following domestic violence incident. Apparently worse than not talking at all. Disgraceful but I’d never claim so...

Psychologists are a waste of time and money for ppl with serious mental illness. In my experience they don’t refer on when consumers don’t respond to talk therapy. People suffer unnecessarily and recovery takes longer due to the delay in getting the right help.

They are all mentally deranged people. Even the one called Batty.

When I started recovering they created issues that weren’t there placing doubt and the need to return for more therapy. Often left feeling more anxious and depressed than when I went in.

Initially the cost. Then veterans affairs became my saviour...literally

Clearly more psychologists who are willing to bulk bill are needed - but then trying to make the most of only 10 sessions per calendar year. It’s hard to make significant changes in 10! Psychiatrists are allowed 50 sessions! Their rebate is higher but they rarely bulk bill..

$190 a session

It didn't fix the problem. All it was, an unknown ear to listen. Yes, I felt safe that no-one I know knew my pain.

Well I went to see on. Ordered actually by my Commanding Officer in the army. He wanted to get be discharged. The Psychologist report said I was completely normal. End of treatment.

They're all fcking loopy

The one I saw was intent on telling me I just wasn't trying hard enough to overcome my (diagnosed) anxiety, that I'd lost my sense of self and I just needed to try harder and redirect my energy. Didn't want to answer any of the questions I had about ADHD, laugbed in my face

Nothing. When working full-time, I went irregularly to Employee Assistance Program's clinical psychologist. 9yrs ago at the behest of a partner, I had four sessions with a psychiatrist. Few weeks ago I spent an hour with a clinical psychiatrist. MentalHealthMatters 👍👍👍

Leftist ideological takeover of psychology eg, The American Psychological Association (APA) toxic new Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Boys and Men. New practice guidelines fail miserably by framing masculinity as a pathology.

Feeling worse after going there. Not feeling brave enough to go back.

My psychiatrist didn't bother to even asses me for bipolar disorder nor did he believe me when I told him I was suicidal. Other doctors waved away my concerns about bipolar disorder for up to 7 years, when I finally stopped asking them about it.

Accessibility - affordability - poor quality of services available - poor matching of therapists with needs (how many of your '10' per year can you waste trying to find someone that isnt shit) - illness doesn't fit into 60 min wkly blocks. list is long. Let's just start there

Costs - plain and simple. Prior to going on DSP I was unable to afford it - on DSP gaps are covered so I am now able to go - so I do. I also now work in charity and 90% of people I speak to who do not attend psychologists who have thought about it? Do not go due to cost issues.

Not alot once i decided i truly wanted too. And it was one of the best and most positives moves i couldve made. But before that. The mindset of it not being worth it, and believing it wouldnt solve any issues at play.

Many need to see a psychologist themselves...

The fact that it’s bullshit.

The mental load of trying to find one a) with suitable appts (full-time work) b) accessible fr home/work (no car) & c) the right fit. Combining that w/ the work of also having to do a, b & c for my child. The child got a psych. I haven't.

The cost, the lack of availability. Tried to get my child into one recently and was told the waitlists were months long.

The cost.

I was fired for speaking up about safety concerns regarding COVID on FB. It was national Prayer day. I was asking for prayers and cookies. I was home quarantined. So, the answer to your question. Money. Finances are in the red. I’m loosing my house. Talk about depressed af. You?

Combination of costs (gap of over $100 per visit even after Medicare with a mental health plans) interacting with difficulty of finding a psych who is a good fit (took 8 of my 10 subsidized visits a year to work out that it wasn’t working with the one my GP recommended).

When they insist I should not be there. I look and act rationally 🤔

Who said I didn't?

It takes many, many sessions to make headway, which makes it very expensive.

$$$

Do they bulk Bill

Being the sanest person in Australia.

They’re usually mad themselves and generally try to have their way with me.

The expenses. The end.

COST

Woman resigns and gets devastating detail in ‘leaving’ invitationShe shared her devastating story after finally resigning from the 'terrible' job, only to be hit with another cruel blow. Poor lady doesn’t deserve to be treated like that and I know how these people behave as I had a friend who was stalked by a former boss lol, I don’t think she is the angel she makes herself out to be if the whole company is going off to celebrate her bitchy ass leaving. Its bullying and bullying in any form is unacceptable in any work place, she will sue and win.
