This election, The Age is shifting our approach to focus on what Victorians want to discuss rather than what politicians want the election to be about. | Gay_Alcorn springst

is shifting our approach to focus on what Victorians want to discuss – what matters most to you – rather than what the political parties and candidates want the election to be about.

This isn’t a new idea, but it is a shift in emphasis from traditional insider “horse race” journalism. The Citizens Agenda has been championed by American academic Professor Jay Rosen, who says: “A demonstrable public service, the citizens agenda approach puts the campaign press on the side of the voters and their right to have their major concerns addressed by the people bidding for power.”

We aimed to consult widely with voters and settle on six questions that would guide our election coverage. As far as we know, this approach has not been attempted in Australia before. For months, we have listened to Victorians about what they want this election to be about.

The Age editorial team hosted eight lunches with experts on key issues to help inform the final questions of Victoria’s Agenda.Five journalists travelled across the state, asking more than 150 citizens the same question.

Gay_Alcorn This election will be reporting on the agenda Peter Costello wants to push. How are we going with our charter of independence?

Gay_Alcorn And that’s why Dan constantly says that you have to listen to your workforce. And that’s exactly what he does. he engages with all sectors and industries every day and asks what they need.

Gay_Alcorn This is code for what Costello and Guy want the election to be about.

Gay_Alcorn Ok, sure! Whatever.

Gay_Alcorn When in the past ten years has given a stuff about what any Victorian wants to discuss whose name wasn’t Peter Costello?

Gay_Alcorn If you employed real journalists you would know what Victorians want to discuss and what is best for Victoria.

Gay_Alcorn 😱

Gay_Alcorn This election, The Age is maintaining our approach to focus on what the LNP and Costello want to discuss rather than what Victorians want the election to be about. There fixed it for you 👍

Gay_Alcorn And who decides that 'The Age'

Gay_Alcorn Just ask coffee shop owners in the CBD?

Gay_Alcorn Can you do a list of promises by the major parties with factual analysis of the proposals, not opinions? Kind of like ‘Journalism’ but without the vested interests and biases. springst

Tenners101 Gay_Alcorn Really! The AGE is interested in what everyday Victorians think & want Can we believe this fellow Victorians Not sure how & why we should believe The AGE is interested they were all about support Mr Andrews last year When Victorians were looking for someone to enable their voice

Gay_Alcorn Please ask me

Gay_Alcorn Costello: 'Discussing our idiot's policies is actually hurting our campaign. The other mob's are obviously winning. Could we just not talk about policies at all? How would we sell something like that?'

sumeyyailanbey Gay_Alcorn What ? I thought there only was the Liberal Party ! You mean there are others ? This is crazy news. Has your overlord died or has someone gone rogue ?

Gay_Alcorn Looks like The Age might have learned from the methodology of the “Voices” movement - ground-up ideas rather than imposed. GOOD!

Gay_Alcorn Translation: We’ll do whatever it takes to help the LNP. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gay_Alcorn (1) I’d love to hear from businesses that are working on making their premises Covid safe for staff and customers. Ventilation!!! (2) I don’t want to hear from cafe owners complaining about lack of staff or customers unless they are doing (1).

Gay_Alcorn Potholes?

Gay_Alcorn Here are a few ideas on what to focus on, The Age. CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE Unless we have a habitable planet NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

Gay_Alcorn Here’s a novel idea, report the facts, without fear or favour and without opinion pieces parading as News. Crazy I know.

sumeyyailanbey Gay_Alcorn As you can see from the comments, Aged readers want the Aged to be Labor mouthpiece

Gay_Alcorn The lack of quality journalism. Obviously biased journalism.

Gay_Alcorn Yeah, nah, bullsh*t.

Gay_Alcorn Yeah…. Victorians in Liberal seats

Gay_Alcorn 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

sumeyyailanbey Gay_Alcorn Andrews needs to go end of !

Gay_Alcorn I want to see the political obliteration of the farce that is ‘Matt Guy’ and his caboose of religious fruitcakes, grifters, and real estate goons.

Gay_Alcorn Andrews in jail! DanLies SackDanAndrews CookVersusCrook springst

Gay_Alcorn I'm yet to see any evidence The Age knows what Victorians want to discuss. Or what politicians who aren't in the Liberal Party want the election to be about.

Gay_Alcorn Covid is still a big issue, whatever politicians would have you believe. Why have most of the measures mitigating the virus spread been removed? Are there any candidates wanting to advocate on this?

Gay_Alcorn We want to discuss how Andrews is allowed to contest the election. How do we know he won’t try to rig another one?

Gay_Alcorn Liar

Gay_Alcorn Look what you and the laminating machine started Raf_Epstein. 😆

Gay_Alcorn Changing tactics more like it!

Gay_Alcorn Ask about public health. Find out if ppl understand risks from covid - acute, chronic, sudden death. Find out if ppl understand how to protect themselves and others.

Gay_Alcorn Where are you been the last 2 years. VictorianCHO would say you are anti-everything now

Gay_Alcorn So no more book self promotion from Chippy & Summeyya 😂 Farcical

Gay_Alcorn The Age is now a sad joke.

Gay_Alcorn Legalise marijuana and re-educate nazis. If either of these is done I'd be happy.

Gay_Alcorn Sure

Gay_Alcorn The Age is going Teal 😐

Gay_Alcorn The problem is you will only ask the opinion of those who already agree with you to ensure you continue to shill for the government. NO minority opinions will be entered into during this campaign as per usual

Gay_Alcorn No it isn’t- it’s shifting it’s focus to printing its own opinion- an inexpert sausage making rumour file.

Gay_Alcorn 3 words Victorians want: “Andrews Must Go”

Gay_Alcorn No you won't, you'll roll over and do whatever Costello tells you to.

Gay_Alcorn The Age will prompt the question...so The Age will control what’s being discussed ...hahaha yeah that sounds fresh and not at all dodgy...

Gay_Alcorn about bloody time...how about rail link to Melbourne Airport?

Gay_Alcorn Cannot wait to read Dimmas and the other cafe owners expert takes on the election.

Gay_Alcorn Yah too late. i note you discussed this but paywalled ... and i wont give you a penny. Ever. Again.

Gay_Alcorn Shifting the Partisan approach? Believe that when I see it.

Gay_Alcorn Just evidence based, factual, unbiased journalism would be a nice change. Don’t expect it. Won’t see it because I stopped reading these sorts of news papers years ago.

Gay_Alcorn We want the age to get the hell out of town.

Gay_Alcorn AndrewsMustGo

Gay_Alcorn Lol What liberal party readers want to discuss I want to discuss what's wrong with journalism!

Gay_Alcorn

Gay_Alcorn I want to get rid of Andrews

Gay_Alcorn Haha So the media trying to set the agenda, their agenda! Should be outlawed

Gay_Alcorn You’re a dud. Ruined yours & a once credible papers reputation. Trashed & irredeemable.

Gay_Alcorn Just do good solid journalism. That’s what is needed. Not clickbait.

Gay_Alcorn We have to rid ourselves of the Andrews government this is not optional we have no choice. Some of your staff support him. If you continue to give them freedom to support an obviously corrupt Premier then let the result be on your head.

Gay_Alcorn *checks the skies for flying pigs*

Gay_Alcorn INTEGRITY in government, stronger IBAC, transparency laws, separation of the public sector from political influence and no amnesia as means of avoiding responsibility for your actions.

Gay_Alcorn And let me guess, you decide what the people want to discuss?

Gay_Alcorn Will 3 & 4 year old need mandated mRNA to attend “free” kinder ? Many countries are protecting children.

Gay_Alcorn Unfortunately the age is not unbiased.

Gay_Alcorn DanielAndrewsMP should reinstate cancer laws for firefighters. JaclynSymes lied to firefighters & did a deal with the liberals for dirty factional party politics, trashed cancer laws. They refuse to replace aging fire trucks, some over 30 years Shame

Gay_Alcorn What a novel concept!

Gay_Alcorn Hope this is true. Sick and tired of manipulative politicians using mass media for their parlour tricks.

Gay_Alcorn Crunch the numbers on which party will kill less Victorians

Gay_Alcorn Correction: *What Costello wants the election to be about

Gay_Alcorn - Genuine CBD recovery plans - Financial support for struggling businesses - Encouraging people to work in hospitality, health care, aged care, retail via government backed initiatives - Incentives for small business to go into the CBD - Promote tourism for Victoria

Gay_Alcorn Age trying to bend the election to Costello’s agenda.

Gay_Alcorn LOL! Like you'd know... Can't wait for the Chip & Towely 🦞 fest. It's gonna shred what little cred you have left. 9Fax MurdochLite
