The recent deaths of young people after taking party drugs at festivals has prompted calls for organised pill testing at events. So what would that look like? And why is it so controversial?

Duh! Don’t worry about whether the taxpayer pays. Have you even thought that approach through? Guess not. Who do you think is paying for the 2-3ambulances that attend for the overdose & subsequent cardiac arrest, the helicopter ambulance after they get a success & the week in ICU

Put a drug management levy on every festival ticket. Deep search every festival goer. Make the drug takers pay for the testing and management, NOT the taxpayer. People that don't do drugs should NOT have to pay for the idiots that expose themselves to that harm.

I’m not saying I’m against it, but doesn’t it fuck up a pill ? Like if a kid goes with one pill they aren’t going to have it half crushed up and tested are they.

If they are stupid enough, _____________________________ you know the line. They are no wast to society really.

Omg all these people whinging about taxpayers footing $$ for pill testing, yet the cost of prescription drugs is enormous to taxpayers. pilltestingsaveslives

SIMPLE! Huge mandatory fines for possession of any illegal drugs and of any volume.

The war on drugs is an epicfailure. Arresting kids for minor possession is a waste of tax payers money and clogs up courts. Throw the book at those who sell dangerous but 'arresting' kids is outdated. pilltestingsaveslives

you buy $20 pill, you pay $20 to have it tested, event organizer pays tester wages. notaxpayerfunding simple userpays youknowitmakessense

Test the pills and save lives

Qs. How does testing prevent overdoses? How does testing verify / guarantee what the effects are on an individual?

Natural selection process?

Actually I think as consumers we should have more information on the medical prescription drugs available in Australia too

It must be worth trying. It would also be great if there was some way to test pills coming into the country through online trading. Not just narcotics but hormone pills, weight loss pills, superfood supplements and even vitamins .So that people know what they are buying.

So now we are legalising carry prohibited drug? Rite! How about caveat emptor? If you use illicit drugs you may die quite simple! Dumb people.

Next we'll have responsible drug making and immunity for pushers and dealers. Complete garbage.

Pissing in the wind.

Either its legal or its not...........testing is not solving the problem.

All for it as long as the event organisers foot the bill for the testing stations, which could be then passed on to the ticket purchasing prices. Why should us tax payers have to foot the bill for their stupidity

People have choices in life u take drugs & kill yrself bad luck it should not be costing tax payers dollars 4 these stupid people who have killed them selves we dont feel 4 the families all our son was a drug user & he saw the light. If parents can’t control their kids tough

And where did all the pills in your photo come from?!

It’s ridiculous if you take drugs & kill yrself bad luck. Next we will b monitoring how much alcohol is drunk. Why is it stupidity may costs the tax payer for stupid people taking drugs they are warned but take no notice now we r talking about putting a programme in place cost

You can do what you like with the pills as long as taxpayers do not bear the cost of it. The words personal responsibility spring to mind.

Doomed to fail, a tested pill will eventually kill a user and the lawyers will sue, killing a good intention by the govt/organizers who will then be frozen by fear at the financial ramifications of an overdose.

It’s also promoted calls for the no pill testing policy to continue. I assume this will be tomorrow’s story. You know ... for balance. So you’re not accused of any sort of bias.

How pill testing could change Australian music festivalsDrug testing at music festivals already happens in parts of Europe but can it work in Australia? SBS News spoke to the president of the Australian Drug Law... No. It doesn’t matter what we do, there will always be some people who choose illegal drugs and know the risks and consequences. It’s called natural selection. It's not going to improve the situation. It certainly won't worsen it, however. Why doesn’t the government make and distribute pure and safe mdma pills at festivals instead of allowing drug dealers to operate in the shadows and syphon the profits to cartels instead of the community? 🤔

Deport them all back to their First Nations in Europe like the Australian immigrant & immigrant descent terrorists now! Best way to test illegal drugs is to let some idiot take them. Keeps the population down and improves the breeding stock.
