American entertainment reporter Sam Rubin has died suddenly at the age of 64.

Hollywood celebrities have shared touching tributes for a veteran reporter, who featured on Nine's Today show for more than two decades, after he suddenly died, leaving behind his wife and four kids.The journalist - who featured on Channel Nine's Today show for over 20 years - is believed to have suffered a heart attack in his Los Angeles home on Friday .

"To all of us he shared his mornings with us on television. And to those he worked with behind the scenes at KTLA, we will not forget him." "The entertainment world has really lost one of its greatest colleagues and dear friends today... and, for the last 20-odd years, he's been a member of our family, mainly through the Today show and Today Extra," he said.

It is understood the 64-year-old American entertainment presenter was due to fly out to Sydney at the end of this month to do some work with Destination NSW."I absolutely adored every second with @samontv on air and off over the past two decades," he wrote to Instagram on Saturday alongside a photo of him at KTLA.

"He often spoke of his wife and children to us in the ad breaks - sending deep love and condolences to them all."Actor Tom Hanks said Rubin will be missed. Picture: Jon Kopaloff/Getty ImagesHollywood celebrities also shared their sadness about the journalist's death.Alec Baldwin described Rubin as"one of the nicest guys I ever met in Hollywood".

Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis spoke about Rubin's professionalism and kindness, adding she will miss his presence on the red carpet.
