New South Wales records 30 Covid deaths, Victoria 20, Queensland 10, South Australia three and Tasmania one

While the WA numbers remain extremely low compared with states where the Omicron variant has spread, concerns are mounting that a more serious outbreak could still take hold despite the decision to keep the state border shut.

“[It’s] the elephant in the room. We already have Covid Omicron in WA. We already have community spread,” said the president of the Australian Medical Association’s WA branch, Mark Duncan-Smith. In a strongly worded statement, Duncan-Smith called on the WA government to introduce modest restrictions, and to properly prepare the health system and schools for the pandemic., said on Saturday that he sympathised with families kept apart by the extended WA state border closure, but stopped short of the sort of outright criticism previously levelled at states over hardline border policies.

He knows they are up for a Federal election arse kicking in WA

It's hard to condemn a decision that is saving people's lives.

Seven cases in WA, over 20k in NSW and you lead with 'WA races to contain Perth cluster'.

WA won’t open until at least the back end of this year. A, it’ll be winter by the time they hit 90% triple dose, and B, there’ll likely be an even more contagious variant that will require a 4th dose so the goalposts will move again. Very gloomy outlook. covid19
