Thousands of homes and businesses are currently without power as another wave of thunderstorms pushes across South Australia, with the weather bureau's Adelaide office briefly evacuated amid 'horizontal rain'.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Brett Gage told ABC Radio Adelaide that it had "been a madhouse today".

"Probably the most widespread damage in the metropolitan area has occurred in the last hour," he said. "In Adelaide we had a westerly change right about 6pm on the coast. There were strong westerly winds and then about an hour later they increased to gale force." Mr Gage said a low pressure system had resulted in "pretty much horizontal rain" in Adelaide's CBD, forcing the brief evacuation of the BOM's main SA office on King William Street.

"I had to evacuate the building here for 10 minutes because the rain got into some system up on top of the building," he said."Luckily the [Metropolitan Fire Service] were very prompt."Lightning at Modbury in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs during a thunderstorm.State Emergency Service state duty officer Brenton Clark said there had been more than 1,000 requests for assistance today.

Fugitive who escaped prison 30 years ago facing deportation after turning himself inDarko Desic, who was at large for nearly three decades, is facing deportation after being sentenced to two months in jail for his historical escape from a NSW prison. He grew pot. Fk. Who hasn't. Leave the guy alone. He's done his time. Even if it wasn't in prison. It wouldve been worse than sentence served in jail The punishment should fit the crime. Hardly one for deportation considering how long he has been in this country and how he's managed to survive. Apparently he's magical too. As reported by 'he turned himself into police' How'd he get caught then!
