Not-for-profit organisations say the rising cost of living is driving more people to seek help as they struggle to survive despite having a source of income.

Concerns about the issue were raised at a stakeholder meeting held on Tuesday to brainstorm urgent solutions to the rental crisis.

Suggestions for "quick fixes" to address the crisis included repurposing unoccupied office spaces and ground-floor shopfronts, but the proposal that garnered the most support was to establish a rental assistance scheme. It shows that when the payments began, the percentage of housing considered "affordable" — requiring less than 30 per cent of a household's income — rose by up to more than 15 per cent for some demographics."The cost to the community if a family becomes homeless is way more expensive than any rent assistance that you would give them," Mr Glasson said.

According to the Real Estate Institute of WA, the rental vacancy rate in WA is 1.2 per cent, and the median rent in Perth was $450 in December last year.

Shame on the people who went in over their heads with a mortgage - financial experts advise that you should have at least 3 to 6 months of living expenses in your safety net. I thought banks made sure peoples finances were healthy enough to cater for increases in interest

Interest rates haven't even gone up yet! So how did they get a loan?

Not the workers fault. This shit is literally all the governments domain.

That’s what happens when wages don’t grow as fast as the costs for everything else over the last 9 years.

ABC was integral part in the biggest crime ever committed on humanity. Fake Covid PLANdemic for a flu with 99.9% recovery without treatments for which Ivermectin and HCQ worked. The Pfizer fraud will destroy you.

Ashamed of voting LNP?

No it's the political parasites who should be ashamed,we all know they're not,but they should be.

Charities etc need a big overhaul most charities require u to pick up the items, that’s fair enough but what about those who don’t drive these people can’t access these services. So people have to rely on friends or family to help and that in itself can be harmful to ask for help

Well that's what ya get when you use government over reach to destroy the working class!

Maybe they could sell their house, like they’d have to to access unemployment. Not a fan of someone with a mortgage getting access to food banks, likely ahead of others. They have an asset, food banks shouldnt be supporting the real estate bubble

Imagine being on a pension disabled or a single mum all who have known how hard it is to survive week to week..

The risk of ‘liar loans’: Can overstretched borrowers cope with higher interest rates?Millions of Australians have pushed the envelope on mortgage applications to get a foothold in the housing market. Now they face the threat of higher interest rates. auspol I wondered what variable meant Fair Work Commission are about to meet to set the new Minimum Wage. “Woolworths and Wesfarmers backed lifting pay for 320,000 of its workers to keep pace with inflation, which could mean wage rises of 3.7% from 1 July” Aged Care maybe 15%-20% rise. This will soften the landing. Yes but my 10 houses are sky-rocketing in value. 😀 Vote Liberal. AusVotes22
