'We saw this coming for years': Farmers take legal action after fires | AlexSmithSMH

The lawyer representing the farmers, Peter Jackson, said some graziers were seeking compensation while others wanted to see significant changes made to land clearing policies.

"They want to protect the biodiversity of the national park and certainly don't want to destroy it but since the park has been locked up, the fuel loads have increased significantly." Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall also said the government needed to look at "a variety of ways to reduce fuel loads in national parks and all public land", including "permitting stock grazing".

AlexSmithSMH Good. An action of this kind is far more likely to lead to positive action than Royal Commissions whose findings get ignored.

AlexSmithSMH So why did you predominately vote for the climate deniers in the last election ?

AlexSmithSMH It would be interesting to know whom is funding this legal action

AlexSmithSMH It dosent make sense, fires burnt rainforest and scrub land all over the country, not just their farms and the land they want to run cattle in. Looking to make gains from a clearly more complex issue than they make out.

AlexSmithSMH If you dont understand climate and dont respect the environment, get off the fkn land. No sympathy for some farmers.

AlexSmithSMH They should be suing the greens not the govts

AlexSmithSMH Good

AlexSmithSMH Yep, the 6 farmers are the only ones to have lost livelihoods from the fires...so lets sue...FFS get a clue...

AlexSmithSMH Nothing about climate change, only reopening national parks for grazing and even more land clearing. Nothing about native animals, only about the cattle.

AlexSmithSMH Oh here we go. Using a tragedy to wind back years of environmental legislation.

AlexSmithSMH Yet more incessant moaning from farmers Greedy self serving grubs When do we wake up to the fact that they are a blight on the landscape massive welfare dole bludgers, employers of third world labour at the expense of local jobs $20 Billion a year in subsidies cost us dearly

AlexSmithSMH As stated in the article. These farmers want land clearing. Just what we need after we lost 5000000 hectares of bush land is the clear more bush land. Sure more hazard reduction burns, but you can see the underlying desire which is good for no one but the farmer in the short term

AlexSmithSMH This is going to be interesting
