Torres Strait Island Council Mayor Phillemon Mosby has revealed he was"not surprised" by the interception of a boat attempting to illegally enter Australia on Monday night as he called upon the Albanese government to increase funding in the fight against people smuggling.by Australian Border Force officials after they attempted to illegally enter far north Queensland .
An investigation into the attempted crossing is ongoing, but speaking to 2GB on Wednesday Mr Mosby revealed similar efforts happen frequently, despite ongoing efforts by the ABF to deter asylum seekers making the dangerous voyage. Mr Mosby revealed he was"not surprised" by the interception of a boat attempting to illegally enter Australia on Monday night, as he called upon the Albanese government to increase funding in the fight against people smuggling. "You would think, for a government department operating in our region, that they would first report to the local government responsible for managing the treaty," he said. "It does and in this case, when it gets to this level it's when people report it because they're concerned for their own security," he explained.
