Health Minister Martin Foley has echoed the comments of the NSW government, calling for tighter guidelines around air crews after an airport transport driver in NSW contracted COVID-19.

The Victorian government wants more oversight of quarantine arrangements for international airline staff landing in the state after a van driver in NSW contracted COVID-19 from a flight crew over the weekend.

"Following this latest case in Sydney we'll continue our advocacy but we need a bipartisan approach and will continue to raise this issue with the Commonwealth and at national cabinet, as well as advocating for pre-flight testing for anyone entering Australia," she said. He said the case had prompted the NSW government to seek talks with international airlines "within 48 hours", and the government's "inclination at this time" is to look into making changes to the quarantine requirements for air crew.

With Australia looking to maintain its run of very few locally transmitted coronavirus cases in the last month, Premier Daniel Andrews last week used national cabinet to encourage his fellow premiers and chief ministers to follow Victoria’s tightened approach for processing passengers at airports.
