Sydneysiders woke on Friday morning to ashen debris coating outdoor decks and gardens from six bushfires form a dangerous ring around the city.

@kjmofo Thinking about @NSWRFS and all those near the #NSWfires. We have a layer of ash over everything this morning

Total fire bans are in place across the state, including Greater Sydney, the Illawarra, the Central Ranges and Greater Hunter. Forecaster Rebecca Kamitakahara from the Bureau of Meteorology said the weekend could bring some relief, with winds turning on shore and coming in from the east. The Rural Fire Service welcomed the arrival of 21 Canadian fire management personnel on Thursday, who will fight blazes in the state through Christmas and into January.Scott Bruce was as prepared as possible for the bushfire. It was not the first blaze he'd encountered - the son of a 30-year RFS firefighter, Mr Bruce himself also spent time volunteering at the RFS.

His sprinklers surrounded his house and property, two trailers held water pumps and a generator back up was on standby for his home's tank water supply.
