‘We argued what was right, not what was easy’: Bill Shorten concedes defeat and steps down as leaderLabor leader Bill Shorten has called Prime Minister Scott Morrison to concede defeat in the 2019 federal election.
With his wife Chloe by his side, Mr Shorten announced while he will remain as the member for Maribyrnong, he will not remain as Labor leader. Mr Shorten said he is disappointed in tonight’s results, but wishes the PM, his wife Jenny and his two daughters the very best. He said that while what his side argued was right, it was not easy, and that he is confident that Labor’s ‘time will come’ with a victory at the next election under a new leader.
