On the eve of his first match in charge of the Maroons, Queensland coach Paul Green resorted to classic Origin mind games | app85

While confirming AJ Brimson would take his place on the bench for game one, Green still attempted to paint of picture of Maroon struggle by lamenting Queensland’s disrupted preparation - which has included concern for Dane Gagai , Cameron Munster and Harry Grant .“Because we’ve had a pretty disrupted prep, and on paper they’re a better team than us.”

When asked for an assessment of To’o under the high ball this season, Green said: “I think he’s had mixed results under the high ball. That’s an area I think both of our wingers [Xavier Coates and Kyle Feldt] are good [at]. It’s an opportunity for us.“He’s been a great player at club level, he’s been one of the form wingers in the competition that’s why he got selected. I’m sure he’s going to look to do what he does well. It’s about us trying to counteract that and limit his opportunities.

Brimson trained in the Maroons’ captain session with a heavily strapped knee after limping from the field in the Titans’ last NRL match more than a week ago. St George Illawarra captain Ben Hunt was called in as cover on Monday. “I think take the hitting in the head piece aside, I think we would hate to see an Origin decided on an innocuous incidental contact with the head,” he said.“It is hard enough playing [Origin] with 13. If teams get down to 12 or even 11, it is probably going to go a long way towards deciding the outcome. Safety aside, I don’t think you would like to see an Origin or a series decided by a decision like that.
