The daily growth rate of coronavirus cases in Australia falls significantly, leading the Health Minister to declare the curve is starting to flatten.

The daily growth rate of coronavirus cases in Australia has fallen so significantly that the federal Health Minister believes"we are now flattening the curve".Experts agree the data shows physical-distancing measures are workingGreg Hunt said the daily increase in cases had dropped from 25–30 per cent just over a week ago to 9 per cent this week.

He said the data showed measures such as cancellations of mass gatherings and travel bans had made a difference. The professor estimates Australia would have had about 8,000 cases of the virus by now, rather than just over 4,000, if the National Cabinet had not taken such measures.

HAS THIS COMMONWEALTH HEALTH MINISTER EVER WORKED IN A HOSPITAL, JUST ASKING FROM A HOSPITAL CEO

Send backpackers home

Maybe so but before we start rejoicing and patting each on back and shaking hands, let’s wait another couple weeks or so before we celebrate ScottMorrisonMP australian Roddy53 AlboMP coronavirusaustralia StayAtHome

who says we are going to get the Tsunami from COVID19 anyway? maybe it's other factors, including hugely under reporting of cases (mild ones) in worst hit countries Covid_19australia

It's time now to flatten the Morrison government.

EugeneMcGarrell Absolute rubbish. Highly restrictive testing is what accounts for this. Start testing all with symptoms and a very different picture will unfortunately emerge. auspol ReleaseTheTestingKits covid19aus

premature call

Way too soon to be speculating this. We already have people not doing social distancing and with news like this we are going to have even more people thinking it's ok and not a serious thing.

Flattening the curve of lies and deceit with more lies and deceit...🤡

It makes a great headline and tries to garner support for this current mob. They aren't doing this for nothing and expect something in return.

Too many people happy to complain and criticise give credit where it is due. NZ cannot open borders unless a vaccine exists. Jacinta does warm and fuzzy but ineffective. Aust experts and Govie federal and state are doing a great job. Now for us to do our bit and keep distance.

Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. Irresponsible. Do not need people being complacent.

Razzle dazzle

StreetNewsAU We never had a curve. Just a sporadic minor outbreak of a relatively mild virus

Pretty sure we're not

These are the same people who told us there was no evidence to indicate the virus could be caught or transmitted by children? Sorry, I call ' Bullshit' on this.

Early days guys, early days!

actions today don’t show in testing for 14 days? Do you mean - we hope that this will flatten in 14 days? Or do you mean - we now don’t have people coming in from overseas but we are going to start testing outside of that group to see what we’ve got?

'flattening the curve' while still, many Australians have flu like symptoms but because they have not travelled overseas in the last 14 days or been (knowingly) exposed to someone who has they cant be tested. We arent testing enough thats for sure.

Its early days & Australians SHOULD NOT become compl acent &;must continue with social distancing & isolation; the key elements to reduce the spread of the virus

EugeneMcGarrell This man is a pathological delusionist. Australia hasn’t even started to hit the hill.

I like that! Sounds good! Really good! Will do better tomorrow!

I hope so. We don't wanna be Europe or US. Give us a break, we're STILL recovering from the bushfires!

While they blame China for concealing the information, the LNP is even worse because they lie about the truth. I think this is Trump's factor.

You can't have bad stats if you don't test.

Bloody well hope so

Yes, but unfortunately the amount of stupidity has peaked. People out in numbers and taking the chance and refusing to co-operate with the authorities. The Cavalier Douchebag Parade, as best to describe them.

I'll believe this if downturn goes on for a week. We got told this days ago & it increased a lot!

Let keep following the recipe. Nice message but it takes some time. BBQ I back yard is....yes with your household. Inconvenient but we are not in Spain Italy or.... well

Shhhh, not so loud if you don’t mind, don’t scare the good result away. But seriously; that’s good news so far, now lets all do what we can to keep going the right way.

Is that a picture of GregHuntMP doing 'Walk like an Egyptian'?

Complacency combat meaures will be implemented swiftly to flip this narrative.

Less testing will result in less cases. How dumb do you think people are Oh, actually wait a minute😣

Bondi clusters...

This is spin. We’ve had four days of a decline but there’s been less testing. If it’s anything it’s the effect of the borders closing and international arrivals slowing to a trickle. There is community transmission going on with no links to identified cases.

We are not...unfortunately..let's get serious...winter is just around the corner!

Are these the same experts who said we must go slow and gradually stage our measures? This has been dragged to 6 months instead of a tough containment earlier

ABC news.. don't resort to sensationalism. I thought you were better! We're no where near flattening the curve. Don't doubt will be many asymptomatic carriers all over the nation and there has been No mass testing so what curve is being flattened?!

kudos GregHuntMP , it is very courageous.

Rubbish anyway. All that’s flattened is the rate of visitors. Community transmissions are going up. Totally irresponsible.

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Good to hear however, we should not get complacent. Not for a minute.

Too early to be complacent. Instead of flattening it could be catastrophe. Think of lives before economy

what after only two days? it's gonna come back to bite you

It’s too early to declare “we are now flattening the curve”. Stop playing politics and wait for more data.

The big problem now is that people will go 'Phew, we dodged a bullet' and slack off completely...

When they say not to panic:

Incredible, they are not working or communicating with experts? How come he say it is flattened yet? It is not the time to evaluate. It might be like some infected ppl stay at home and spread to all housemates atm. Actually I see few experts on press conference, where r they?

Don't count your chickens to soon. Tenants in my block of units are socializing, coughing over each other, oblivious to the dangers. (Expletives). Me, I'm high risk and in lock down. We don't need Trump style gas lighting here.

After several days... amazing 👍

How do know the real numbers? All i hear is people showing symptoms but being refused testing.

The only thing flattening is ScottMorrisonMP leadership ability and public confidence. Not there was much to start of with. Genocidal maniac is the only word that come to mind when I hear his name. That and his only consideration of the bottom dollar over lives.

premature self-congratulation

VIC rose 11.7% overnight and has a testing rate of 56% per 1000 compared to NSW ... NSW has completed 100,000 tests vs 45,000 VIC. VIC therefore has a latency on its +ve test numbers ... not a time for complacency. VIC - up your test rates!

Bullshits, why test less than before?

WHO says test test test

Sound like a flat earth hashtag

London to brick, this curve WILL go up, Queensland had WEEKS of compulsory close contact, for Council elections, and by-elections, across the State, should see explosion in week or two... WHY Palaszczuk Why risk it?

Thanks ABC, good report! You need to get your journos off twitter and being influenced by all the 💧 blowhards. Just look at Europe and see how well Aus Govts have done to be seeing these drops in infections and didn’t even require a complete shutdown

From 19/01 - 29/02 (25 Cases) From 30/02 - 07/03 (46 Cases) From 08/03 - 14/03 (148 Cases) From 15/03 - 22/03 (1143 Cases) Yeah I’ll wait for further data thanks GregHuntMP healthgovau ScottMorrisonMP auspol HerdImmunityByStealth LNPfail ScottyFromMarketing

What are the testing criteria now? Anyone know? Seems a bit pre-emptive to say this.

🤦🏼‍♂️

Dream on say that in 4-6 weeks if people comply with the regulations

Winter is coming

We are now not testing enough

What a crock of shit! Start testing the wider community rather than just a select few and watch those numbers explode.

This explains why the coronavirus and cruise ships are a perfect match. Wash you hand frequently and keep you social distances and follow the other government recommendations.

Way too early to say that!! Don't encourage complacency for heaven's sake. That's the last thing we need right now!!!

No we're not. Fewer tests have been done.

Send those cruise ships home that should help in the future

Everyone's like...

Very hard to believe. Too many new cases every day.

Garbage!

Test more widely. Report infection rates more accurately.

Community transmission is the important number. Secretly I suspect the Government thinks we might be able to concentrate tracking etc under the current arrangements, especially sealing the border, to put the genie back in the bottle. Hope it happens.

And the experts are Greg Hunt?

More like wishful thinking guys. Irresponsible.

Ruby Princess about to kick our arses Thanks GladysB NSWHealth ScottMorrisonMP PeterDutton_MP Border_Force

It has turned the corner unless there are more stupid NSW backpackers! Take out NSW and we’d have already turned the corner

Sorry, anything Hunt says has no origin in reality...

Scott Morrison is giving money to poor people and yoinking private hospital beds from rich people. There is no way to make me buy what you're selling.

Good news, All without closing schools or the new measures, proof we are already doing enough and the new Maoist regime can stop. Can we have our bloody lives back? Isolate those at risk, let the young, productive and healthy live their lives.

Nobody is buying this.

Hm....gauged this from your restricted testing?

Welcome to Communism Australia with thanks to the ChinaVirus banmadeinchina

Big trouble spots just detected today at Adelaide airport and Bondi... Italy, Spain and Germany all show a dip and then a rise.

Isnt’t this simply because we are testing less? It seems we have gone from 6k tests a day to 3k in NSW...

Sorry to burst the bubble here but No. We have community spread clusters popping up daily and our Epi curve is following its natural 3-5 day doubling. Try Curve assessment again in 2 weeks

This is wishful thinking.

Community spread is very limited, according to overseas data, so that shouldn't be a great problem. How many people have been hospitalised for COVID19au in Australia..?

Greg, you are a dangerous fool.

Why am I seeing a picture of the Liberal stooge in this tweet?

Hope this doesn't cause complacency. Isn't it too soon to be saying this?

Bit early

NOTE: This means we have to hold this position until it is gone again, none of this 'Oh we're fine now' bullshit

'Don’t get too excited' about flattening COVID-19 curve, experts warnCan Australians be excused for thinking we won’t be hit as badly by the coronavirus as other parts of the world? The short answer is 'not just yet'. rachelclun CraigDButt Yeah…..wouldn’t want any good news! rachelclun CraigDButt I'm not. All I'm interested in is making sure there's emergency medical treatment if I or my family need it. Suppose I can live with trying to flatten the curve to get it. rachelclun CraigDButt Channel 7 with its usual LNP propaganda last night claiming we are winning by infections being down for only a few days. Also not taking into account the flood of cruise ships unloaded the days before. Idiot reporting.

There’s early signs Australia is flattening the coronavirus curve, but experts say it's not happening fast enoughAs preliminary evidence suggests Australia’s strict new physical distancing measures are starting to slow the spread of coronavirus, experts have warned against showing any complacency. “gatherings are limited to two people unless you are with your family or household.”...this is what’s confused me....can you still see immediate family even if you don’t live together? Police should round up these old people milling around Bondi Junction. They're not even observing the 1.5m rule. One sat next to me(!) Great news. JennyMikakos DanielAndrewsMP everyone I know is in lockdown and has been respecting your requests. Save lives. Save livelihoods. Please don’t let anyone become bankrupt

Economy shutdown a 'good thing' for flattening the curve | Sky News AustraliaThe Switzer report’s Peter Switzer says “the bottom line is we shouldn’t be raiding supermarkets and overbuying” and believes “we will be back to work within three or four weeks”.\n\n“These six month calls are sensible when it comes to how long the medical emergency will be around,” Mr Switzer told Sky News.\n\n“I think the shutdown of the economy is going to be a good thing for flattening the curve.\n\n“In the interim period I just think we should do our best to keep people in work if they can, and try and support your local areas.”\n\nImage: Getty\n morons are still lining up outside supermarkets buying out the toilet paper I still can't get any Agreed. If we work together as a united population, and self isolate, this will be over sooner rather than later. Difficult but necessary measures. Hopefully we will learn some lessons, both personal and as a nation. Let's do this thing Australia.

Austraila is 'flattening the curve' of coronavirus infections | Sky News AustraliaTough restrictions enacted by both state and federal governments has allowed Australia to flatten the rate of coronavirus infections in Australia according to NSW Deputy leader John Barilaro.\n\nThere are 4,250 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 in Australia, but the number of infections have been trending slightly downwards over the past few days.\n\nMr Barilaro told Sky News this trend is in part due to tough new restrictions on public gatherings, including the closure of popular recreational outlets like pubs, clubs, restaurants and beauty salons.\n\nHowever, he warned that the disease is not contained yet.\n\n'It only takes one further outbreak in a dense area and before you know it you lose control again,' he said.\n\n'We are only at the start of the curve we are not at the end, but these are good signs and as a government we are still responsible to make sure we end this virus and that is a long way off.'\n\nIt's clear when both levels of Australia work together we can protect our community.' JohnBarilaroMP Its not flat yet A pity some brain dead f*ckwit allowed the passengers of the Ruby Princess to disembark. Australia is STILL waiting for that individual to be sacked. The media have already gone quiet on this topic. Confusion lays with everyone told to stay home yet non-essential shops are open to entice the same people out. Harvey Norman, Kmart, Bunnings, Shiploads and others are all open for what reason? Council also need to look at what is non-essential. Send your staff home!
