Olivia Tape was wading through rock pools at a popular Port Macquarie beach in northern New South Wales when she stumbled upon something unexpected."I took my daughter and her best friend down for a swim and it was a super-low tide and there had been big swells, so there are a lot more rocks visible at the moment," Ms Tape said.
The wallet, which was found at the southern end of Shelly Beach, still contained a number of cards which revealed it was at least 16 years old. "He said he wished he had a saltwater tank to keep it in … it's a piece of art, it is definitely the case that nature always wins," Ms Tape said.Stephan Soule, the outreach and education manager at Southern Cross University's National Marine Science Centre, said ocean finds like the wallet were not that surprising, particularly after heavy seas or big tidal movements.
