After a former employee raised allegations about fake coal testing, it disputed the claims. Now ASIC is taking the company and some top brass to court.

Construction legend Wal King is among top brass of miner Terracom being sued by the corporate regulator following claims about fake coal testing.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission said the Federal Court civil action marked its first ever “alleged breaches of the whistleblower provisions”.“ASIC alleges that Terracom and its senior company employees engaged in conduct that harmed a whistleblower who revealed the alleged falsification of coal quality certificates,” ASIC deputy chairwoman Sarah Court said on Wednesday.

Queensland-based Terracom also told the sharemarket on Wednesday the case related “to disclosures made by the company with respect to a former employee in early 2020”. ASIC’s proceedings target the company itself, Terracom’s former chairman Mr King, mining industry veteran and former board member Craig Ransley, current managing director Danny McCarthy, and chief commercial officer Nathan Boom.“The company has lawyers engaged and will vigorously defend the proceedings,” Terracom said.

Comment has been sought from Mr King, the former chief executive of construction giant Leighton Holdings.

The landlords forced to raise rent by $200 a week | Fiona KatauskasWhat are they supposed to do? Those poor landlords. Won't someone spare a thought for them? Well if people can't afford to live there, all I can say is you are going to have to take a loss on the sale. That's capitalism. Don't expect me to feel sorry for you.

‘Justified fear’ among Vic Police amid proposal to raise age of criminal responsibilitySky News host Peta Credlin says as a society we’re becoming too “soft and muddle-headed” to make young people and parents take responsibility for their actions. Ms Credlin said there is currently a proposal before federal, state and territory attorney-generals to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14. “Frustrated by delays in lifting the age, Victoria – where else – is now threatening to go it alone in lifting the age of criminal responsibility to 14, even though in the year to September, the Herald-Sun has got statistics and they report, 226 children aged 11 to 13 ... were charged with serious assault. 'As well, children aged 11 to 13 were charged with 120 aggravated ... burglaries with violence, 22 11 to 13-year-olds were charged with assaulting police and other uniformed personnel, nine 13-year-olds were charged with rape ... and 15 with stalking. “But if the age of criminal responsibility is raised to 14 ... none of those young people could be charged, none prosecuted, none convicted and none of course punished. 'This is justified fear among Victorian Police, should this change go ahead, they fear that older criminals will use 13-year-olds and below to do their dirty work for them because they can't be charged.” Justified fear of Vic-Stassi? Is that the same justifiable fear used to authorise shooting unarmed protestors and beat up old people for sitting in a park? It's time to bring back the👇 Wonder if we can extend that to parents of the current crop of useless Tories led by the chief twit Dutto?
